2023 Season

PreviousPage 38 of 95Next

Our opponents out of the gate are 193 Wins 180 Loses... we are 19-19.. despite not hitting, while P really solid but with bouts of inconsistency in our BP.. I know we are almost 40 games in.. BUT there are some real positive signs (Manny squaring everything/ Soto getting to .900 OPS/ Tatis doing better than expected ).. With that said .. Crone needs to be more consistent.. Xander needs to get back on track...

May Team ERA 2.06 #1 in baseball Huge + BUT we are 4-5 including 0-3 in extra innings

And we are #30 as in last place with RISP for the season..

We have a top 5 payroll and a lineup full of stars.

We should be able to beat anyone.

Instead we are about to let the dodgers run away with the Division again and get to listen all season about how we can't even buy a winning team.

They bring up rookies that hit better than the guys we give $10-$15 mil a season too.

If we aren't careful we are going to be 7 games behind the dodgers by Sunday evening

Well said

I appreciate Melvin actually acknowledging that it's time to stop talking about it getting better and time to start actually playing better. It was starting to feel like 2021 with Tingler giving the same speech after every loss again.

Maybe this is the Spark we need

.087 BA/ .250 OBP/ .087 SLG. .337 OPS

30 PA's...  NOLA 2023 RISP 's... easy 3 or 4 Wins even if he is just .174..  a complete Black Hole..

I mean DFA time.. bring up Severino and ride with Campy/Sully m/Severino no matter where that leads us..

Maybe it backfires ..but at least we try something different vs same same same and Worst team with RISP in 2023 mainly because of this dude

I mean with RISP 2023 #s

Cruz .896 OPS

Manny .856

Xander .842

Soto .692

Nando .686

Carp .667

Kim .644

Crone .538

Grish .536

Darvish…..Hader….Tatis….Soto….Lugo….Martinez

That’s it.

That’s the list of the 26 man roster that are playing to their abilities at the moment.

Bogaerts has a .215 Slug % in his last 15 games.

I worry that the others are also playing to their abilities 🤔 … hope not

Looking at the last 15 days offense, Soto has really picked it up. Tatis is over .300, and Machado is starting to look like Machado again. Cruz, Sullivan, Crone, and Grisham are all above .250 for the last 15 games.

In the same time, Kim, Carpenter, Nola, and Bogaerts have all performed below average.

Especially Bogaerts, he has a .146 BA, .255 OBP, .244 SLG in the last 15 days. Dont know if Bogaerts fell in love with the HR after the hot start, or what, but definitely not an acceptable performance for the ML vet!

Players get hot ... players get cold ... not easy to explain but would like to get a majority hot at the same time. For your consideration the OPS of the individuals May vs April:

+467 (1270 v 803) ... Soto

+254 (810 v 556) ... Kim

+122 (887 v 765) ... Tatis

+103 (783 v 680) ... Machado

-34 (746 v 780) ... Cronenworth

-47 (685 v 732) ... Grisham

-254 (266 v 520) ... Nola

-484 (399 v 883) ... Bogaerts

-671 (305 v 976) ... Carpenter

-761 (142 v 903) ... Cruz

I guess we are over focused on Nola (never expected much offensively) but have missed the dramatic decline in Bogaerts - Carpenter - Cruz ... the three that helped carry the Padres in April and are dragging down the Padres in May with those pathetic numbers. I expect Bogaerts to rebound to his history but not convinced that will happen with Carpenter and Cruz.
