It’s been fun to watch this team grind with some of the issues they have…catching and not really having a lockdown bullpen yet

looking forward to seeing Tatis on April 20 in Arizona…Melvin said barring any type of setback Tatis should be batting lead off on the 20th and I’ll be there rocking the Padres gear at Chase Field…I just wish I could figure out how to post a picture here on mad friars

Regarding Jake and his swing…he is getting a little bit more of the “straight top hand “ on his swing. Some hitting coaches like the palm up Palm down approach which leads to more fly balls and gravity is not your friend with that approach opposed to driving the ball…Palm to the sky…you hit it high, palm straight and you hit it great

Hopefully our padres continue swinging the hot bats in New York and stick a couple right up the Mets tailpipe starting with tonight ⚾️

Can someone smarter than me,and 3Finger :), tell us how to post a pic on here?

If I remember correctly Henry has posted some pics?

Martinez clearly wants to be a starter and signed a contract that rewards him for being one. Melvin indicated that he would probably move back to a traditional 5 man rotation after this current stretch of consecutive games. I think that means they'll give him at least 2 more starts to prove he can function effectively as a starter. His first start wasn't bad.

Absolutely, which creates the conundrum. And his lack of consistency as a starter last season was an issue as well. He would have one start, go 7 with great supporting stats like you mentioned. And the next start, he would struggle to get through the line up twice, and tax the bull pen that day.

At some point like last season. I think SD needs to give him the "for the good for the team" speech and move him back to where he was spectacular last season, the bull pen.

A lot of moving parts but the call on Martinez should come at the end of the month.

1. April 24th and 28th are off days then one off day each week in May … not really going to need 6 SP if they want to keep the other SP on a regular schedule … not expecting them to want SP to pitch every 7th day considering the days off.

2. Musgrove will be back taking a spot (likely bumping Weathers) …. Leaving Martinez or Lugo as the odd man out of a 5 man rotation.

However, that is a lot of time to incur new injuries and have a better view of Martinez v Lugo. Add a wild card IF Weathers catches fire to hold onto that 5th slot (doubt it but)

Now Martinez seems the odd man out … in 2 weeks?

Weathers just needs 5 IP 2 runs starts and it would be next to impossible to replace him .. as he would be >Martinez and Snell with that production

So Campy was OK with the SP .. but didn't put in the work with the BP guys in the past.. appears he is now ..good progress and good sign

I know it's early and all BUT

Campy 4-0 as starting C has allowed 1 SB

Nola 3-6 as starting C has allowed 15 SB

I think is time to give Campy 65% of the starts

.556, .331, .521, .513.... our RF'ers OPS.. Dahl/Dixon/Azocar/Odor....

Tatis can't get here fast enough..

In 1113 ABs ... Severino .235 33 134 5 .677

Solid pop.. ok speed...  BUT also a cannon for an arm... I mean how much longer do we let Nola C in SD?... The New Rules will only expose him left and right and his Offesnse is aging quickly and not in a good way...

Not supporting a long term commitment to Nola but:

1. His replacement for #1 catcher will be Campusano in the future IF the Padres let him play enough to earn it … Nola (mainly for his work with Darvish) will become the 2nd catcher;

2. The “idea” of a better Severino has to be pushed against the fact that with his ML experience and 29 other teams that could use an upgrade at at least one of the ML catcher slots … Severino ending up signing a minor league contract with the Padres … maybe MLB scouts don’t see the same upside.

Since catchers typically don’t move at the trade deadline to contenders … we will see next winter after the Padres know what they have in Campusano.
