We won. The Dodgers lost and the Giants lost twice. Not a bad day in Padre land.

It seems that Preller is still trying to hunt down Gallo. According to MLBTR and Heyman at the NY Post, Preller was still trying to get Gallo out of NYY. According to the article, many think that Gallo just isnt the guy that can handle playing in NY, somewhat like Sonny Gray. Apparently, NYY was trying to get TEX Gallo value, and not NYY Gallo value (he hasnt hit above .151 in NYY).

I know Profar is off to a good start this season, still dont think it will last, and even if it does, can still find playing time for both Gallo and Profar.

Gallo would put SD over the CBT, but he and both Myers are FAs after the season, so it should be easy for SD to reset after this season.

I'm thinking if Profar gets 500+ AB's this year, he's hitting 23-24 home runs, driving in 70+, and playing a very good defensive LF.

We're alright there.

While Profar has had two seasons where he did get to the 20 HR mark, that was in 2018 and 2019. So where those flukes? Or because he had playing time? There was a reason that TEX and OAK gave up on him. I truly expect Profar to slump out soon, however I hope I am wrong.

Plus Gallo is a much better OFer defensively than Profar, and Gallo can truly play all 3 OF positions. So it really could also be insurance if Grisham or Myers dont find their bats this season, or if/when Grisham goes on the IL which has historically happened.

SD is still woefully short in the OF for this season. Azocar, Thompson, Beatty, nor Rooker are a better option than Gallo.

No question about it, Joey Gallo is a better player than Profar but way back when (2011/2012 when Profar was 18/19 years old) Profar was considered the #1 minor league prospect in all of baseball.  Yes, we can say the Rangers and A's gave up on him but Profar had a number of very serious injuries that took away some of his natural talent and skills.  So, at 29 years old, is he on his way back after a couple of injury free years?  I'd say go with the flow and let him play his way out of the line-up.  He brings a lot of energy to the game, much like Fernando, and gives everything he has even though it is not a the talent or skill level of Gallo.

Gallo would be a good get but not if the Yankees want Wood, Hassell or Mears in the package.  Certainly, Abrams in untouchable and Merrill making himself into the same kind of valuable player.  I'd be willing to give up Campusano and/or a pitcher (Weather or Morejon) or two since we have some pitching depth for Gallo.  Since he's hitting less than his weight in NY and will be a Free Agent after 2022, might get some kind of discount.  Gallo has only hit above .250 once in his career and his MLB average is only .205, so there might be some room for negotiation.  His current salary is just over 10 million and re-signing him could be just in the mid-to high teens (13-17 M per year).  He'd be a frustrating player from time to time like Myers but at a lower cost and better defensively.

Gallo has been a boom or bust player for most of his career and lately it's been a lot more bust than boom. I know AJ has been after him for awhile, but if we make a move for a bat I hope it's a more reliable one. I wouldn't trade anything of substance for Gallo.

He definitely would be frustrating as he is the typical 3 outcome guy that baseball is becoming; walk, strikeout, or HR. Not a lot in between. Although with our needs for both this season and next, OFers, Gallo would be a good get, unless SD sees Tatis or Abrams becoming an OFer.

I would be concerned about giving up on Weathers. For the first part of last season, he was really, really, good. Was his second half being winded? Or the league catching up to him. I tend to think it was him pitching more, and higher than he ever had.

And with Gallo being a FA at the end of the season, and his performance in NYY, I dont think Cashman has a lot of bargaining power, and the NYY fans should be getting really restless with him soon, making him even more gettable IMO.

Key point, is Preller has a man crush on him, and I would expect to see him in SD brown by the trade date this season, or as a FA get in the offseason, when Myers departs, or resigns for a much, much lower salary more to his performance level.

For the money ( $10,275,000 ) this year and the fact Gallo would be nothing more than a short term rental. Given his lack of any kind of numbers so far this season....he really doesn't move the needle given the money he is making. Like every other team....the Yankees would want pitching and unless it was a low A type...I would pass for this year. Besides they really need to allocate money for signing Musgrove, Mananea and Rodgers to long term deals instead of them all being UFA next season....if you are going to be over the CBT then at least do it where it really matters.....On the Mound

The only player I would trade for Gallo is Myers. Would have to send money or prospects to even it out but both are free agents at the end of the year and I wouldn't want to give up any top prospects for a 1 year rental not much better than Myers

Blasphemy! He's one of my favorite players on the team and a fellow North Carolinian! But seriously though, you could be right that Myers could be one we would think about sending along. However, really though I don't think Gallo is all that some have him cracked up to be.

I'd rather look somewhere else tbh.
