Maybe just me but they keep drafting players I see as under slot ... not seeing the pick that will command all this extra slot money.

I'm guessing it's gonna gotta be Wood right?
Maybe strong commitment to College?

A ton of HS types are still undrafted ... many ranked highly ... so could go a lot of ways.
However, given the current slot allocations going to be hard to accumulate enough under slot money to sign a HS kid who want 1st (or even 2nd round) money UNLESS the Padres' #1 pick Merrill really came in under slot ... but doubt.

#5 Max Ferguson LHH 2B out of college ... ranked #144.
Sounds like a rebound gamble ... thought of highly before this spring and had a bad spring. Lost his bat to ball skills for some reason but apparently can run and field.
Looks like a super utility candidate if he makes it ... apparently view as CF potential along with left side of the INF.
I think it was Mayo who before this spring saw him as a potential late 1st / 2nd round candidate.
Note: extra slot money not going to him.

Max Ferguson is one of Tennessee's top MLB Draft prospects
Ferguson was named a preseason All-American by Baseball America and D1Baseball. He also was included among the top MLB Draft prospects by both sites.
D1Baseball pegged Ferguson as the No. 24 prospect in the 2021 MLB Draft, while Baseball America rated him as the No. 48 prospect.

With #6 Padres select college RHP Ryan Bergert who missed all of 2021 season due to an injury (surgery in December 2020) ... no idea on the injury.
Was going to be West Virginia's #2 SP and had good results in his work in 2019 and 2020 ... mid-90s FB.
Another sleeper with upside.

Draft is fitting a Preller profile ... early HS / hitters followed by College / pitchers.

Any chance we snag one of those top 100 High School kids and try to sign him?
