2020 Draft

From today's DFR ...

The completion of the game means that stat lines for Justin Lange and Bodi Rascon – both of whom pitched on Friday night – are now reflected accurately. Lange, the club’s supplemental first-rounder last year, has struck out 10 while allowing just one run through his first seven professional innings.

Mozzicato just went #7 to the Royals!

😳

He was mocked to us at 27 in most mocks I had seen.

From today's DFR ...

After a shoulder issue kept him out of action for a month, Justin Lange returned to the mound and worked one inning. In a microcosm of his season, the hard throwing right-hander from Llano, Texas walked a batter, struck out a batter and uncorked two wild pitches.

From today's DFR ...

RHP Justin Lange started and tossed a scoreless inning, striking out two. Lange has started two games in September, tossing an inning in each of them. Before those two outings, Lange missed about a month for undisclosed reasons. He has thrown just 20.1 innings in his first full professional season, and while he has struck out 27 batters, has walked 14. Lange should be able to get some innings when instructional league starts in October.

What's up with Campusano?

Padres notoriously silent about injuries but my guess is that it is an arm or shoulder injury.  Tried to get him in some games as a DH but apparently injury worsened so hasn't been able to play.  Hope it is nothing serious.   Another injury in the myriad of injuries this season that have derailed the parent team and key minor league prospects throughout the 2021 season.

Yeah no reason to take any chances.

Our Catching situation is one of the few positions of interest for next season.

Do we keep 3?

Does Campy start in AAA?

If there's a DH does that insure we keep 3?

Not too many other position questions for next off season.....

Or is Campusano a really good trade chip? Catchers who can hit (even just a prospect) has good trade value … Padres have Caratini for 2 more years and Nola longer plus in the world of prospects Valenzuela is a comer by the time Caratini is departing.

In the near term Padres likely need a quick productive infusion in the OF with Pham on the way out and (potentially) Tatis back to SS. If that is the future … with the OF need and a DH … if the Padres plan to contend a “proven” bat needs to be in the plan. Really doubt there is enough money left around in 2022 to sign a big time FA bat. (Plus I doubt they can move Hosmer or Myers salary without moving a major prospect to facilitate the deal).
