Quote from LynchMob on October 1, 2018, 5:52 pmBy virtue of their 66-96 finish, the Padres will pick sixth in the Draft next season. It marks their fourth consecutive top 10 pick. They've used each of the last three on pitching -- Cal Quantrill, MacKenzie Gore and Ryan Weathers.

Quote from David Jay on October 2, 2018, 7:35 amMore so than most classes at this stage in the process, the 2019 class is shaping up to be an offense-heavy class at the top. While obviously there will be plenty of churn at the top once players actually start, you know, playing, it's pretty clear that there are far, far more collegiate bats in line for the top half of round one than we've seen in a while. Which is pretty good news for Padres fans. Could certainly see a Michael Busch, Nick Quintana or Mike Toglia - all big-time power guys with some positional flexibility and some positive indicators on pitch command - in the mix.

Quote from fenn68 on October 2, 2018, 2:23 pmLooking at a few "way to early" reviews of top prospects for the coming draft (a lot always changes in the spring) but seems like at #6 the Padres should have a few high ceiling HS bats in the mix. Looking now like Witt (a HS SS) and two college catchers have a good chance going in the first 5. So then only 2 picks ahead of the Padres with both some decent bats and a number of arms around. Should set up pretty well if you like (want) bats. On the other hand if bats go 1 through 5 ... Padres could get their pick of the arms which is not all that bad.
