Prospect Watch: Despite taking the loss, Jagger Haynes turned in one of his better starts since moving to the PCL. The southpaw worked five innings and allowed one run, two hits, walked three, and struck out four. Haynes leaned into his slider, throwing the offering at a 34% clip while tossing his fastball at 32%. Overall, the left-hander posted a 27% whiff rate (10 whiffs on 37 swings). Through his first five starts, the lefty had struggled to post just a 19.9% whiff rate and 17.0% strikeout rate against PCL hitters. Round Rock hitters connected on five balls north of 95 mph among the 13 they put in play. Since being moved to Triple-A, the 23-year-old owns a 7.13 ERA and 4.89 FIP. … Ethan Salas logged his second straight hitless game, turning in a 0-for-4 at the dish. While two hitless performances now drops his OPS below 1.000 for the first time since arriving in El Paso, the 20-year-old backstop has been nothing short of exceptional since dawning a Chihuahuas uniform, posting a .405 wOBA and .385 xwOBA, fueled by a 50% hard hit rate and absurd 8.2% whiff rate– all of which rank in the 90th percentile or better among Triple-A batters this season. … Hitting atop the El Paso lineup, Samad Taylor went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. The outfielder’s base hit in the ninth logged an exit velocity of 101 mph. Taylor has now hit safely in four straight ball games and is 5-for-16 with a homer during his rehab assignment. The Padres could choose to activate him from the IL at any point. … Gage Workman logged the only multi-hit effort for the Chihuahuas, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. In good news, Sunday’s game gives Workman back-to-back multi-hit games. In bad news, he’s just 7-for-36 without an extra-base hit and 26.8% since arriving in El Paso back on August 11.

Prospect Watch: The Missions were the lone Padres affiliate to plate a run Sunday, but still lost handily to settle for a series split against the Naturals. Romeo Sanabria turned in a 2-for-4 day at the dish, collecting a double and a run scored. Since his demotion back to San Antonio after posting a wRC+ of just 30 for El Paso, the first baseman is 16-for-36 with four extra-base hits. … Hitting out of the No. 2 spot, Alex McCoy went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts, the first hitless game at the Double-A level for the 6-foot-7 outfielder. McCoy continues to be a free swinger with the Missions, posting a 56.1% rate since arriving in San Antonio. However, he often selects the right pitches to offer at as he also sports a 75.4% in-zone swing rate. The key question for McCoy moving forward, as it has been all season, is whether he can limit whiffs and chase enough to allow his legitimate 80-grade power to shine through. Over his first nine games in the Alamo City, McCoy owns a .897 OPS. … Braedon Karpathios, like McCoy, went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Despite an off afternoon at the dish, Karpathios has been one of the better performers in the system over the past month. Entering Sunday, the 23-year-old had posted a 148 wRC+ and swatted six homers in his past 30 games. Playing for more power has come at a cost, though, as he’s punched out at a 34.2% clip in that same span. The former undrafted free agent has been a streaky hitter ever since he entered the system back in 2022. He’ll be rule five draft eligible at the end of the 2026 season. … Reliever Garrett Hawkins allowed two runs on two hits, walked one, and struck out three in his lone inning of work. The right-hander continues to struggle through a disappointing first year on the 40-man roster, with an ERA that sits at 6.26 and a 5.15 FIP. He’s posted an untenable 16.4% walk rate in combined 41.2 innings between El Paso and San Antonio.

Prospect Watch: The Lake Elsinore bats were held to just two hits as the club dropped their seventh straight game. They are now just one game better than Rancho Cucamonga for the worst second-half record in the Cal League. … After reaching base multiple times in each of his first four professional starts, Elliot Lascelles turned in an 0-for-4 night in which the 18-year-old punched out twice. While it’s a disappointing end to his first taste of professional baseball, it was a strong overall showing for the 2026 second-round selection who went 7-for-17 with a pair of extra-base hits and five walks. … Joe Tiroly registered one of the team’s two hits, going 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. The 2026 seventh-rounder has posted solid numbers in his short time in Lake Elsinore, slashing .286/.359/.486 over his first 32 at-bats. … Truitt Madonna logged the Storm’s lone extra-base hit, going 1-for-3 with a double. The 19-year-old has struggled through his first professional season. The backstop sported just a 76 wRC+ and .316 wOBA. While he has worked to cut down on his swing length, his 30.7% strikeout rate and 38% whiff rate are rather concerning. … Luis Maracara was the lone bright spot for Lake Elsinore, as the right-hander worked four shutout innings where he allowed just four hits and punched out a career-high seven batters. Still, even with a high strikeout total, the right-hander’s pitch mix generated just a 14.8% whiff rate. While he didn’t issue a walk —and threw 65% of his pitches for strikes —Maracara did hit a batter for the fourth time in his past five outings. His command will need continued refinement, as he owns a 12.8% walk rate in 27.2 innings at Single-A. … An inning after San Jose rallied for five against Jordan Valenzuela, righty Jack Pineau worked a clean inning in his professional debut. The Ontario native by way of Creighton University signed as an undrafted free agent last month after posting a 4.21 ERA in 83.1 innings in his junior season.
