Prospect Watch: El Paso used a seven-run eighth inning to turn a tie game into a blowout win at home. The Chihuahuas had 17 hits, including a pair of homers. … Former Minnesota Twin Jose Miranda, coming off a strong week, homered in the second inning as part of a multi-hit effort. The homer was his third of 2026, and extended his hitting streak to five games. During the streak, The 27-year-old is 9-for-24 (.375 average) with a pair of homers, two doubles, and a triple. The former big leaguer can opt out of his contract in June if he is not added to the big league roster. As of now, there isn’t room for him in San Diego, but as long as he continues to pound PCL pitching, he will be in the mix. He posted above-average offensive numbers in the big leagues as recently as 2024. … While Jase Bowen has gotten most of the accolades among El Paso batters, Marcos Castañon has shown plenty of power as well. The El Paso infielder connected on his fourth homer of the season, putting him just one bomb behind Bowen for the team lead. The Rialto, California native sent a pitch 407 feet that left his bat at 99.6 mph. Castañon has shown plenty of power and kept his strikeout rate at a tolerable 25%, he lacks a true defensive position and has been one of the swing-happiest hitters in the league. That has translated into a dismal 4.7% walk rate that is second-lowest among PCL qualifiers. … Veteran outfielder Samad Taylor had three hits, including a triple, drew a walk and had a sacrifice fly on the night. It was the speedy outfielder’s second three-hit game of the year. The former Royal and Mariner is hitting .288/.368/.424 overall. … There aren’t many players in Triple-A with multi-year big league deals, but Sung-Mun Song falls into that boat. The former KBO star went 1-for-5, with a single, a run scored, and a strikeout. The 29-year-old has squared up the ball this season, he has rarely done so with with any authority. In 19 games, Song is hitting .271/.346/.300 with just two extra-base hits – both doubles – and an average exit velocity of below 90 mph. His K-rate stands at 27%, nearly double the rate he punched out in the KBO last year. Song, who signed a four-year contract in the off-season, will need to show more offensively before he makes his big league debut.

Missions rained out

The Missions’ game was postponed due to rain. They will host Amarillo for a doubleheader Wednesday. Prior to the scheduled contest, starter Luis Gutierrez and reliever Jeferson Villabona were placed on the IL. Corresponding moves will follow this week.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps fell behind early and lost a rain-shortened game after playing just six innings Tuesday. The loss dropped Fort Wayne to 6-10. … After a 1-for-31 start to the season, shortstop Dylan Grego is showing signs of life offensively. The 22-year-old extended his hitting streak to three games with his first mult-hit effort of the year. The former Ball State infielder doubled and connected on his first homer of the season in the loss. Four of Grego’s five hits this season have come during his modest hitting streak. Coming into Tuesday’s game, Grego had a brutal 39% K-rate and a BABIP of .136. The K-rate is unplayable, but he’s taken better at-bats over the last week. He posted a wRC+ of 95 in his pro debut last year with the Storm. … After tossing a gem in his first assignment back on April 7, righty Maikel Miralles has struggled badly in each of his last two outings. Miralles lasted 3.2 innings Tuesday, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits. He walked three and struck out just one. The 21-year-old righty has had issues with the long ball this season allowing four in 7.2 innings in his last two outings. Only two pitchers in the Midwest League have allowed more homers. Through three starts, Miralles has a 7.71 ERA. … Righty Matthew Watson relieved Miralles and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, walking a pair with one strikeout. Watson, 24, was the Padres’ 13th-round pick in 2024, out of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He had Tommy John surgery shortly after being drafted, and missed all of last season. The Arkansas native was dialing his fastball up to 97 mph during spring training. He has a 4.91 in 3.2 innings this season.

Storm 17, Visalia Rawhide 7

Key Statistics: CF Ryan Wideman 4-for-6, 3 R, 2 HR (3), 2B, 4 RBI; 3B Bradley Frye 3-for-6, 3 R, RBI; C Truitt Madonna 4-for-5, 3 2B, 3B, 3 RBI; SS Jorge Quintana 2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB; DH Victor Duarte 1-for-2, HR (1), 2 R, 2 RBI; LF Conner Westenburg 2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI; RHP Winyer Chourio 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 6 K; LHP Joseph Herrera (W, 2-0) IP, H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K

Prospect Watch: It was a career night for center fielder Ryan Wideman, as last year’s third-rounder had the first four-hit game of his professional career. The former Western Kentucky outfielder connected on a pair of homers, although one comes with a giant asterisk. In the third inning, Wideman hit a rocket through the infield on one hop, just out of the reach of the shortstop. The ball rolled all the way to the wall and got wedged. Wideman never stopped running and scored. The base umpire walked out to center field and determined that the ball was playable, giving Wideman the inside-the-park homer. In the eighth inning, he connected on an opposite-field blast that cleared the wall, for his third bomb of 2026. Wideman has been terrific in the first month of the season. Tuesday’s performance raised his OPS to .896. … Not to be outdone, catcher Truitt Madonna had a four-hit game of his own, as he blistered the ball all over The Diamond. Madonna had a triple, three doubles, and three RBI. The breakout performance helps end a mini, 0-for-11 slump for the 19-year-old Washington native. Through 16 games, Madonna has a solid .790 OPS despite a 29.2% strikeout rate. … Jorge Quintana had a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to four games. The young shortstop had two singles, a walk, and an RBI in the victory. Quintana struggled out of the gate, but he’s looked better as of late. Over his last 19 plate appearances, he’s struck out just twice. The former Brewer prospect is hitting .196/.317/.235 for Lake Elsinore so far. … Righty Winyer Chourio pitched well but couldn’t work into the fifth to earn the win. He was a bit inefficient, needing 70 pitches to get 12 outs, but he kept the Rawhide off-balance. In four innings of work, he allowed two runs on three hits, striking out a season-high six without walking a batter. In four outings (three starts), the 22-year-old has a 2.25 ERA.

Roster Moves: Righty Carson Swilling was activated before the game. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings on Tuesday.
