Zayed Salinas
Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 12, 2019, 6:00 pmThank you Jankowski
@longenhagen Padres agreed to terms ($800K)with 16yr old Mexican LHP/OF Zayed Salinas 6'2" 185, sits 87-90, curve 74-79 projects to plus, has changeup feel. We had as #1 player in Mexico for 2019, 27th overall 35+ overall FV
used the $$ International slot acquired for Jankowski to sign this kid... 87-90 at 16 is pretty decent tbh, probably can add 5-7mph by 19/20 yrs of age... a nice lotto ticket here
Thank you Jankowski

Quote from LynchMob on November 13, 2019, 6:42 am35+ overall FV seems low ... how does that compare to other signings?
I guess "lotto ticket" is a good way to say this ... 35+ FV is a long shot ... which is non-zero ... and I assume it's worth $800k ...
How is it that he's available to sign now? ie. wonder why he didn't sign previously? Wouldn't he have been eligible to sign since J2?

Quote from fenn68 on November 13, 2019, 7:33 amJust no way to be right on putting a value on a 15-16 year old ... might get “lucky” but not from any real insight ... way too much physical and mental growth ahead.
Sort of where the international team scouts earn their money ... looking at the raw talent and the mindset of the kid and, since they will sign to their limits since this is a fertile source of talent .... just pay up for the best (in their view) they can sign.
Sometimes they get quality for peanuts - sometimes they get a dud for big bucks - and sometimes they get the quality money balance right.
Basically a bigger unknown that the domestic draft and that has its long history of big money (highly rated) misses.

Quote from Alex Tamayo on November 15, 2019, 5:11 pmI read today the local newspaper ( wich I never do, but my barber hand it out to me while waiting) and realized that Salinas is from my hometown Ensenada, I hope he succeeds, 'cause the last one (Fernando Pérez) failed to do so 🙁

Bummer that Perez flamed it. He was a dark horse to mature into a Millar if IIRC. Rooting for Salinas and Urias and Munoz and Ornelas. Love to see more Mex love at the BP, energy is awesome.
