Quote from fenn68 on August 4, 2019, 10:28 amOF is still a possibility but at some point the Padres have to work him out there.
Also, would not totally rule out 2B (if Urias does not hit). In this day of shifts, an "oversized" 2B can work if he hits (see Moustakas and even before shifting Jeff Kent). Unknown what the Padres really think of his bat (PCL stats aside). If they moved Kinsler, France could slide in as a RHH 1B/2B/3B/PH bench option. Or is he more "valuable" as a trade chip?

Ty France also continues to put up incredible Triple-A numbers after a so-so stint with the Padres. With four more hits Wednesday, France raised his batting average to .399. He also amassed enough plate appearances to appear atop official leaderboards. Even in the souped-up offensive environment of the PCL this year, France outpaces his nearest competition in most categories by 15-20%. He has an opportunity to join Erubiel Durazo as the only hitters to hit .400 in the modern era of Triple-A baseball that dates back to 1963.

Infielder Ty France was named MVP of the Pacific Coast League on Friday, making him the second Padre in four years to win that honor. Hunter Renfroe took home the 2016 award.
In 76 games for Triple-A El Paso, France batted .399/.477/.770 with 27 homers. That success has yet to translate to the big leagues, where France was hitting just .220 entering play Friday night. Still, he should see somewhat regular playing time at second base over the season’s final month.

David Beebe (Hawaii):
Between Potts, Owen Miller and Ty France who has the best chance of developing into the Padres everyday second baseman for 2021?
Kyle Glaser: Miller.

I dont see why that is the case. Miller had a horrible winter. France at least showed something at the ML level. To me, I feel like big league pitching may be tough for Potts.
I think Cronenworth will get serious consideration. Cronenworth appears to be superior to Miller in every metric.

Think Miller gets the nod as a middle INF who hit at the AA level in his first full minor league season ... throw out the winter stats.
Do think Cronenworth may become very useful since he is the best SS of the three (and a LHH) ... never ranked very high in TB or when inserted in the Padres' ranking ... maybe someone sees a flaw in his hitting.
As a 3B/1B France is handicapped unless an elite hitter ... but has not demonstrated the power consistently for those slots ... so he has more to show (I pretty much discount last season's stats from AAA for everyone).
All three should end up Padres by next season in some capacity ... maybe all three trying for 2B? Yes, even France.

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 23, 2020, 10:52 amI hate that we all pretty much agree that our players AAA stats are useless in evaluating them offensively.
Should that really be what we want in our AAA affiliate?
Especially when you consider our pitchers AAA stats are pretty much worthless as well.

Cronenworth was #17 in Rays rankings-- Rays Farm maybe #1 atm.. so like top #10 in probably 60% of the systems... WHY? Age would be my biggest take. Usually 25 yr olds get pushed to 25-30 range, so to be in the teens for the #1 system is actually pretty high praise..
With that said I see him as a Ben Zobrist type "Jack of all trades" regular without a set position....
