OK with including Nett, Baez, and Nunez ... can debate how good they may be in the future but not likely to be game changers in the next couple of years ... Miller and Sears can be.

Plus now moving Cease (replaced by Sears) and Suarez (replaced by Miller now) keeps the pitching at strength and could lead to improving offense ... plus if they follow through with those moves ... save about $8MM for the remainder of the season (and drop below the 2nd tier of CBT penalty). Might allow them to add a more expensive player to upgrade the offense.

As it stand 2026 sits with Musgrove, Pivetta, Darvish, Vasquez, Sears (L) ... then Kolek, Bergert, and Waldron ... not even counting Miller converted to SP or the potential to re-sign King.

I will toss back in ... with the good performance of Darvish yesterday and King feeling healthy in his sim game ... using Pivetta in a big deal ... he is low cost in 2025 but up to $20MM in 2026 then will opt out. Add a quality long term LF ... use the saved 2026 money to re-sign King on a multi-year deal. Might be a good strategy for 2025 and the longer term.

Doubt they make that move at this point in the season ... Miller is not stretched out. Look at King to replace Cease in August if traded.

So, considering the Padres need upgrades on the offense ... might they keep Suarez (who as a rental will not yield an impact ML bat) and instead trade Adam (only controlled through 2026 ... should get a significant payroll boost for 2026 then FA) but that same profile should get a better return for 2025 than would Suarez.

Miller replaces Adam (for 2025)... then over the winter they sort out the closer slot among a large number of in house candidates even if Miller goes to SP.

Clearly the pivotal point is the quality of who they would get in return for either ... plus if they solve the need for a hitter by trading a SP this may be moot.
