The Padres new Manager

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Bob Melvin!  Totally unexpected!  He's current, he's experienced and he's one of the most respected and successful managers in the business.  Can't wait to see what he does with a roster that's potentially probably better than any he's had in the past.

Alright, so who had Bob Melvin for the win?

Bob Melvin, huh?

Interesting choice. Like to hear what the vets think?

Just read that Melvin interned at Bear Stearns whilst playing with the Giants. That should certainly have some value for our multi millionaires.

He's won with a lot less in other places. This could be THE guy!

I'm not unhappy just surprised , since this came out of nowhere . He sure has credibility and experience . I think this will be a home run when given a little time to digest this . Melvin is a players manager and has worked closely with Billy Beane and most importantly he has made the playoffs with a much less talented roster .  With the subtraction of Rothschild I'm very optimistic. Lets get everyone healthy and see what happens . This is make or break for AJ and he made a good hire .

Sounds like Melvin has a chance to be a home run. A decade of success with a very low payroll team / limited talent and with a front office (Billy Beane) that is always involved. He does a lot right apparently. Being a "current" manager also adds to his hitting the ground running in the present day managerial challenges. Plus at 60 ... could be around for some time to provide consistency.

Sure sounds as though OAK is working on reducing an already low payroll and Melvin's 3 year / $12MM deal with the Padres was not in the cards there.

It also appears the new pitching coach has a long track record of developing quality pitching in the Cleveland organization ... and would guess Melvin is fine with his add.

On the surface ... two good hires.

Melvin is the 1st Padres manager hired with experience since 1998 , Trader Jack Mckeon.

When this notification popped up on my phone last night I read it.....it didn't register cause it made no sense....then I read it again.

LOL

I liked the idea of Washington or Guillen but this works too.

It just never registered to anyone as a possibility.
