The Padres new Manager
Quote from MrPadre19 on October 13, 2021, 7:19 amSo who's it gonna be?
Who do you want it to be?
Any thoughts on any current Padre Coaches being promoted, kept on or let go?
I'm guessing most assume it will be an experienced Manager like Bochy,Washington or Showalter?

Quote from 3fingersplit on October 13, 2021, 1:23 pmMy long shot choice would be Aaron Boone if the Yankees are dumb enough to let him go.....Bochy has already proven himself and would not take orders, has had cardiac problems, made a clean break, could be / should be in the HOF after five years and is enjoying fishing......2003-2029 W/L .497....out of the game since 2019
Showalter is stale, 1551 - 1517 W/L .506.....out of the game since 2018
Washington has age against him...would be 70 next april , 664-611 W/L .521
Boone was born in La Mesa....Ray Boone and Bob Boone....young guy ( 48 ) and Managing the Yankees might be one of the hardest jobs in Pro Sports...328/218 W/L .601
Boone will not be out of work long if the Yankees scapegoat him

Quote from WindsorUK on October 13, 2021, 3:08 pmFirst thought was Bochy, for obvious reasons.
Second thought, Brad Ausmus. Ex Padre, ex manager, Princeton(?) grad so obviously a smart guy.
Third guy, bit of a dark horse....Rod Barajas. Ex big leauguer, ex manager in the Padre system( didn't he actually manage at the big league level for a few games?)
And yes, Boone. San Diego connections, ex big leaguer, success as manager in NY.
I REALLY like the San Diego connection. Tells me they have more skin in the game( whether that means anything, I don't know but I prefer it. That's why I think we TOTALLY f**ked up by not naming Roberts manager)
Just not a newbie. That's proven not to work with this group.

Quote from TarheelPadre on October 14, 2021, 1:02 pmWell the temperature of the search should start rising now that the Cardinals are in the market for a manager. Every candidate seems to have something holding them back, but agree that the next skipper needs to have experience at a championship level. No more rookie managers or a manager that has never won anything. This organization does not know how to win, need to import that trait.

Quote from Randy Manese on October 25, 2021, 5:21 pmPadres caught a break when the Cardinals went with an unproven in-house guy to lead that team. Probably wait until after the World Series if Ron Washington or even Dusty Baker is really a viable candidate, however, expect a manager to be named before December so he can have some input into the final 40-man.

Quote from Randy Manese on October 27, 2021, 10:41 amI'm calling Ron Washington to New York Mets and Ozzie Guillen to San Diego Padres as those respective clubs next managers. Doubt San Diego can get Bochy to come back under the current circumstances and Showalter seems to be holding out for the perfect situation before diving back into managing. Guillen seems to have an edge about him and his combativeness may be just the personality to fire up a laid-back Padres persona. This may be Preller's last chance so he had better make it a good one.

Quote from WindsorUK on October 27, 2021, 4:47 pmOzzie ticks all my boxes- experienced, World Series champion, All Star player, ex Padre. And the fact that he's Latin should play well with our Super Stars. Not to mention he's full of piss and vinegar- just what this franchise needs: a kick in the teeth.
I like it.

What would you consider "the perfect situation" for Showalter if not San Diego?
The only negative I can think of to this job is the Dodgers and Giants in the Division.
The team is stacked the Park is incredible.
Perfect weather and great fans.
If you mean AJ and his involvement I personally think if he ends up bringing in an experienced Mgr. this won't be a problem.
