Team Sale

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

I doubt any potential buyer who would drop a billion + on a team without a cadre of consultants… some baseball “oriented “ who have their own ideas on personnel and structure. Also the lead owner at a minimum will want to be hands on until the team is working his way plus having people reporting to him he is comfortable with.

In Preller’s case … good or not … if he does not mesh with new owner he is out. Maybe not on day one but not long.

Need AJ around for at least a few more years to build the Farm back up.

But if he accomplishes this again it would be the 4th time he’s done it and I’’m not sure why anyone would not want that guy to stick around.

I have little hope SD can get an owner as good as Siedler … not in a small / mid market city.

Likely an investor group wanting long term gain and short term break even cash flow.

Apparently one of the richest guys in the world (8th or 9th) is interested in buying the Padres and is already in preliminary negotiations with the Seidlers. Steve Ballmer is the owner of the Clippers and has strong ties to the SD area, and according to what I read, the Seidlers are requiring the new owners to keep the team in SD. From what I have read, a deal could be in place by Spring Training.

This could be exactly what could save the offseason for SD. Would Ballmer give the nod to current ownership to spend the money knowing that he is good with increasing the payroll?

Oh, by the way Ballmer would be the richest MLB owner by at least 5 times over than current richest owner in MLB, Steve Cohen!!

Padres would be in a much better financial situation if Steve Ballmer owned the team and the sooner the better.  This would be a deep pockets owner who might be willing to sign those free agents to put us over the top against the Dodgers.  He bought the Clippers for 2 billion dollars and they are now valued at 7.5 billion; he was voted the best owner in the NBA in 2020 by The Athletic.  He understands the tax advantages of owning a sports team and is not afraid to take revenue losses to offset his overall income (which is substantial).  This is the kind of owner that could lead a parade!

Ballmer sounds like a good choice to be new owner.

I’m a life long Clipper fan and Ballmer would be an amazing choice to be Pads owner. I would love to see an owner give Preller some moderate spending money to fill the holes in the team appropriately to compete for a championship without having to decimate the farm system every trade deadline at same time allow Pads scouting department rebuild the farm system and eventually allow Pads to fill the majority of the team’s holes with home grown talent.

As a Clippers fan, any way you can get him the message that we Padres fans would love to have him as our new owner!

Which super duper rich guys have been mentioned as possible sports teams owners over the past decade, who have yet to be fortunate enough to actually buy a team?

I think someone mentioned Cuban? Any others?

Ballmer would be ideal but it would be interesting to hear of any other possibilities.

For just once, it would be ideal if we got someone who was both, pro-San Diego and free spending.
