St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres: August 1-3
Quote from WindsorUK on August 1, 2025, 12:50 pmQuote from fenn68 on August 1, 2025, 10:17 amOne player that may be ecstatic about the moves should be Tatis. He now will be hitting lead off with the hitters before him after the first inning (my guess):
#7 ... Laureano ... .355 OBP (144 wRC+)
#8 ... Cronenworth ... .345 OBP (133 wRC+)
#9 ... Fermin ... .309 OBP (78 wRC+)
With that group getting on base way more than the previous #7-9 and with Arraez and Machado hitting behind ... should get better pitches to hit and get that chance to really drive in runs given his SLG.
I think that also may help the #5-6 hitters ... not wanting to put them on base with Laureano and Cronenworth coming up ... better pitches to hit.
Simply lengthening the line-up is more than the specific adds performance but the impact on the rest of the line-up. Plus a fair chance they can help getting the SP out earlier and get to weaker early RP arms.
This, to me, was a major issue.
Let's hope Fermin and Laureano are more fleet of foot than their predecessors.
Are the new guys in SD tonight?

Might not know until the last minute ... only 24 hours since the trades and who knows the logistics of getting from where they were to SD and activated to play. Technically they have 72 hours per the CBA but that almost never is pushed.
Have not seen any of them officially added to the roster ... that happens when they report (and the Padres notify the league). It would be a surprise if they were not all here but maybe if a late arrival not starting until tomorrow.
Since they DFA Brooks and Maldonado ... they are gone. If an issue with Fermin ... have not heard this ... but they could have Campusano in the clubhouse and "called up" for the game for the 2nd C. They have not made moves on either Johnson or Wade so some coverage for Brooks being gone.
Same with pitching ... have not made the offset moves for the adds. Maybe an insurance AAA arm lurking in case.
Best guess is that they all be here by game time ... then Shildt's call on when to insert them.

Quote from fenn68 on August 1, 2025, 2:56 pmAppears that Cortes remains on the 60 day IL for now so no need for a roster move.
40 man sits at 38 ... so no issue there when King and Cortes activated.
Dropping two pitchers off the 26 man may be trickier if both adds are in Aug.
