Spring Training-

I'd imagine a long pen is nearly a given considering both Clevenger and Snell will be limited to start the season. Clevenger, obviously, has an excuse. Snell, though, I feel is getting a stupid free pass by the press for being so far behind everyone else. Dude is projected to be at ~60 pitches for opening day. Lame.

Ugh….seems I’m the only one that ever mentions Kim’s’ uppercut.

Bases loaded two outs, full count, leads to three consecutive pop ups the final one becoming the 3rd out.

Is anyone else concerned?

Has anyone with the team ever mentioned it?

Gore looked better than any other pitcher, including Darvish, we've thrown out there so far.  Dominant first two innings with a great breaking ball and well located fastball.  Got a little out of synch in the 3rd but finished strong.  I'm thinking he could be kept up as one of opening 28.

Unless he is starting … he is departing to AAA.

No way … after the last two years of turmoil in his development … they want to change his development path and have him on a inconsistent pattern coming out of the pen. Could set him back another year or two.

I need to see him a couple more times in ST … going against the other team’s regulars … to really try to determine his ML readiness.

Sure looks as though he is close .. and as in an earlier post … should make it easier to use Weathers / Paddack in a deal for an OF.

I would not rule out the #5 SP slot (Martinez to long relief / 6th starter). That would create a large domino effect in the pen.

======

Side: keeping in mind that contenders needs SP … and this is just wild thinking … could the always creative Preller use Snell in a deal? 2 years control and not an excessive contract for a guy that and a good second half of 2021. Besides whatever they would get as the return (probably prospects) clears some luxury tax space.

On the TV broadcast they said Clevinger pitched in a back lot game … 3 innings with no hits and 4 Ks and a FB that was consistently in the 93-95 MPH for the entire outing.

Most importantly, he appeared healthy and on track.

Nick Martinez is currently scheduled to start on Friday vs the LAD … and important start in evaluating the #5 SP.

From what I've observed so far, Grisham and Myers are way too passive at the plate.  Don't attack first pitch strikes, get behind the count, and let too many balls in the zone get by them for called strikes.  Myers is having his usual problem with outside pitches and doesn't seem very confident in his approach at the plate.  Grisham isn't making hard contact.  I hope they start listening to the new hitting coach because we need them to produce at least at league average rates to have a competitive line-up minus Tatis.

Just turned on the game. Martinez looks like a legitimate pitcher.

He's got a Clevinger like I gotta pee, silly dance thing going on too.

Considering he going up against the LAD and basically their first team in his first start … encouraging.

Seemed a bit rough in the 1st (command) but settled later and yielded only one run (Freeman HR) in his first three innings.

Will see more in his second outing maybe against a more “average” line-up.

Myers looks horrible.....he needs to figure something out....QUICK!

Voit couldn't handle high heat. Hope that isn't an issue?

Alfaro getting good wood on the ball.
