Spring Training 2023

It's time to get this one started

Wonder if we will see a lot of Merrill early on in ST games.. Doersching as well.. 2 "future" Padres I am cheering for..?

What battles are you intrigued by?

I like Dixon as a potential Drury breakout type..(not the Reds version.. the Padres .722 OPS key hits version)..

The back end of the rotation and a couple bench spots are all that are really up for grabs.

We will be walking the razor’s edge to see if anyone gets a major injury and lands on the IL … with little depth a key injury (or two) could become an issue.

I can see a possible Campusano breakout. If he can give the Padres solid, reliable defense, throw runners out well and show an above average bat with plus power it will be a big breakout. It is what his tools say he can be, but everyone seems to have lost confidence in him. Many people here have been saying that the Padres need help at catcher. I would love to see Campusano prove them wrong. I don't necessarily expect it, but it is definitely possible.

Most likely breakout will come from someone like Jose Lopez or Moises Lugo. They both took a step forward last year and can easily become next year's version of Steve Wilson. Maybe Michel Baez. If he can stay healthy and show average control he has the stuff to dominate.

I Mostly just want to see what Tatis looks like at the plate and where they play him. I also want to see Blake Snell come out ready to go. There's no blaming COVID or the CBA negotiations this year.

Weathers and Groome really need to show well in ST this season, and on the position side, Campusano and Rosario really need to show they are capable of being bench support for a WS caliber team.

Looks like I may be flying out to Spring Training this year....anyone plan on going?

If I do I'm guessing it would be the 1st or 2nd week of March.

Would love to meet some of you.

Let me know what your plans are if you think you are going....

I think the 2 lefties Wethers and Groome are going to surprise a lot of people.. Ryan and I been chatting and the newly wed is as focus and putting in that offseason work as he has ever been... Word out there also says Groome who began a weight loss regimen and Pitched as well as he has over the last 3 seasons since coming to SD (@EP) is going to show up at 235-240 come ST a good 30-40lbs lighter then where he was in July .. if he comes anywhere in that range many scouts think his stamina and velo will play up..making him that much more better..One of the reasons I don't really want to give anything of value for Garrett.. if we giving up value I need a #3 or better upside SP.. Garrett is more a 4/5 type which Wethers and Groome can be..

I'm always 5 minutes from the ball park. So if you make it, I will make it there. Buy ya a beer.
