Soto and his view of the Padres

With the Yankees, Juan Soto’s historic bet on himself is about to pay off - The Athletic
He seems happier with New York, playing in a stadium ideally built for him to launch baseballs into the stands, for the richest franchise in baseball. He has moved on from his tumultuous time in San Diego, where he endured a lengthy slump, struggled to connect with teammates and coaches, and knew the Padres were never going to give him the contract he wanted.
Sounds like Juan was playing for Juan?
Maybe the reason he didn't get on with his coaches and teammates is because he didn't want to invest his person with people he knew he'd not be with in the near future? Shitty reason to not ball out though ( granted, he put up great numbers the second half of last season)
In retrosoect, wish AJ had not bothered.
I get that AJ was trying to get a World Championship before PS passed. I too wish they had not traded for Soto. We gave up a boatload of talent. Abrams, Wood & Hassell would really strengthen our OF play, probably right now. The 2022 playoff run was a lot of fun though.
I want AJ to start keeping our home grown talent and build from within from the most part. It does seem that he is actually starting to lean that way. Jackson Merrill is a great start. Salas will be a quick mover through the system, hopefully DeVries will as well. Snelling, Mazur, Lesko & Bergert off some SP hope. Let's hope AJP is finally getting it, that it is a young man's game these days. Go Pads!

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 13, 2024, 5:17 pmI think AJ “trading the Farm” was Seidlers idea….along with his wallet opening.
Win one for San Diego before the Cancer wins.
It’s horribly sad it didn’t happen for Peter.
But now, with multiple long term deals for guys in their 30’s,AJ has no choice but to build from within.
I think he would have all along for the most part if Peter didn’t speed things up.

Agree that Siedler was the influence in marking the big trades and the major signings / extensions … not sure that Preller on his own would have made those moves … after all his pedigree is that of a scout, player development.
Add that in his first few seasons, I really believe that he was given a mandate from Mike Dee / Fowler to go all in to make a splash and win immediately.
Never underestimate the influence / direction exerted by the “bosses” … Preller is just an employee.

We also can't deny the fact the Tatis suspension screwed up AJ's whole plan.

Quote from WindsorUK on April 16, 2024, 11:26 amSeeing the great start both Abrams and Gore are having, gets me bummed AJ made that deal.
But what's worse is seeing Wood absolutely DESTROYING AAA!!!! Hitting .440 with a .540 OBP and 1.350 OPS, it won't be long until he's mashing balls out of Nationals Park.
But a question to you guys is: with Hassell absolutely struggling, and our desperate need for OF( especially LH hitting ones!), any way in the world AJ brings him back? Patino, Marcano, De Los Santos, Wolf, Profar,......all brought back into the fold. Not sure what regard the Nats hold for young Mr. Hassell but they've already won that trade. What would they ask in return? Jay Groome maybe?
Thoughts?

And claimed by the Yankees. His residual promise will probably bounce him around a bit more until he's able to clear waivers with someone.
