Merrill had been so hot and now he is in a 1-19 slump.

I think King could have gotten out of the game with only 1 ER over 6-7 inning if it were not for the mis-play in LF by Sheets (should have been an out ending the inning) that put extra pitches (and some bad luck) on King to get him down 3-1. The 4th run was unearned due to Tatis' error.

The weekend 0 for 18 or 19 with RISP says it all.

With today off all the starters are getting that "extra day" rest ... so the immediate need for Darvish really is not there for a rest purpose. I guess they could insert him in for Kolek on Thursday (ATL) or a week from Tuesday (MIA) but if they want to insert another "rest day" ... insert him after a Kolek start pushing the rotation back a day.

COULD activate Darvish ... option either Jacob (shaky recently) or Reynold ... let Kolek take his start ... option Kolek ... call up Morgan or Hoeing to restore the pen.

Shildt did make it clear he would worry with a long term 6 man rotation deteriorating the pen ... plus keep Kolek a SP is important for the first call-up if a SP is needed.
