The Padres are coming off a good series win to face the Mariners, who will be a tough team to beat. The one tough pitcher they always seem to face is Gilbert. Not this time as he is currently on the IL as well as another top pitcher George Kirby. Bryce Miller, who was suppose to pitch in this series just went on the IL.

Woo does not pitch as well on the road(4.02 ERA) as he does in Seattle(.093 ERA). The pitching matchups still favor the Padres. This will, be Koleck's first start at Petco Park.

The Padres are playing alot better in front our home crowd than they have in past seasons. They are 16-5 at Petco Park. The Mariners have scored 5 more runs than the Padres this season. But, the Padres have allowed the second fewest runs in MLB.

Top NL West Games: Dodgers(29-15) host Angels(17-25), Giants(25-19) host Athletics(22-22), Dbacks(23-21) host Rockies(7-36)

Again you gotta love these pitching matchups.....but Woo is "really" good and the type of pitcher we struggle with.

Pin point control....only 8bb's in 50+ ip

At least he isn't left handed

Lockridge in the line-up again today vs a RHP ... have not heard if Heyward has a minor injury (knee again?) or this is just the beginning of the end for him.

Lockridge needs to show some offense while Preller has to look for a potential upgrade ... somewhere.

Just a mind set on Lockridge ... a 5th round pick by NYY and "only" 28 ... speed / defensive first profile. Has not shown much offensively in the limit ML time but in 2023/2024 (620 AB) mainly in AAA he did deliver about a .300 BA (and most was in Scranton in the International League not EP) plus an OPS about .800. No HR power.

So a good chance he has enough to present an upgrade over Heyward the way he has starter this year.

Game 1 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Bogaerts SS
6. Sheets DH
7. Cronenworth 2B
8. Díaz C
9. Lockridge LF

Padres lost game 1. At least the Dodgers lost, too.

Kolek did not have his best stuff. His first worst game of the season. The offense had opportunitites but coudn't get it done. Merrill is in an 0-12 slump. Let's hope  he breaks out of it tomorrow.

Let's take game 2. Pivetta on the mound.

GO PADRES!

I though in general Kolek's stuff was OK but Seattle is the top team in the AL West. Yeh, 3 HR is clearly sub-optimal but the Crawford and Tellez HRs (don't remember the other) were on pitches down and in with some movement ... could argue he should not have pitched to that location to LHH but the fact they hit the pitch is more about them than the "stuff".

Still impressed with Kolek's command / stuff combo ... yet, do think he will get optioned when Darvish is activated. Then between then and at least the All-Star break ... when the Padres need a spot starter ... he or Hart or Bergert will get the call-up then optioned. Padres by then will also have a number of RP in EP to yo-yo up and down as the offset.

Note that Hart pitched a very good game last night in LV (hard place to pitch) and now has three plus starts with EP (ERA under 2.00). IF Peralta continues to struggle .... maybe a RP option?

Under any circumstances the return arms filling the ML and AAA rosters do create a intriguing pool as trade chips given the needs for pitching all over MLB. IF the Padres conclude that they NEED a LF upgrade to win in 2025 ... might gamble on moving some pitching depth.

Game 2 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez DH
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Bogaerts SS
6. Sheets 1B
7. Cronenworth 2B
8. Díaz C
9. Heyward LF

Outstanding pitching by Pivetta. The offense could not get it done, but they did have opportunities. Kudos on Sheets home run.

Let's hope they can prevent the sweep tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

So they get on base by just putting the ball in play, but as soon as they have a guy on scoring position they try to go for the 3 run bomb? Every single time, the first 40 games they score a lot of runs by just spreading singles and doubles around the field, why not continue to do that?
