San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres: August 18-21
Quote from brent wolff on August 21, 2025, 3:18 amQuote from WindsorUK on August 20, 2025, 10:03 pmI think( or at least hope
) that I was wrong about O'Hearn, in that I suggested he had a bit of Ludwick in him. I think Ryan has produced more in 2 weeks than Ludwick did in his nearly 1 year in San Diego( okay, not really but O'Hearn's production is helping us win!)
Plus Ludwick cost us Corey Kluber. One of the worst trades in Pads history. Ugh! O'Hearn doesn't appear to be a Ludwick, he is making significant contributions. Ultimately, I think we will regret trading Boston, Neighbors and possibly Hightower, but that was the cost of going for the WS this year.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 21, 2025, 4:06 amWell, at least we can't blame that trade on Preller! Initially, I had my doubts about O'Hearn since his track record is not lengthy and prior to this year his best years (the last two years) were only 17% above league average AND he is already 31 years old. However, he seems to have acclimated well and we also got Laureano for this year and next, so even if it is only one year of O'Hearn and he helps us get to the playoffs and beyond it might well be worth it.
I really liked all the prospects we traded away but they are still prospects and a long way (3-5 years) from the majors if any of them make it that far. I believe in Preller and his staff's ability to rebuild the farm system and find those nuggets that are often overlooked or thought to be too much of a risk to sign. Hope there is money to tempt O'Hearn or Laureano to extend beyond his current contract because we really don't have any prospects like them in our minors who are ready to contribute similarly.

It seems to me that one option is to let him play 2B and have it be Crone that gets a few fewer ABs ...
Also ... any chance Arraez isn't 100% healthy?

Not sure putting Arraez in for Croney is a good option ... Croney is a more productive hitter (maybe not BA but OBP/SLG) and a better fielder. When Croney gets a "rest" I would prefer Iglesias in (probably against LHP).
Tough set-up for Arraez when the Padres want to win games while Arraez' offensive production is lagging behind the others. I guess if the Padres are winning and have a clear path to the playoffs / NL West ... I suspect he will play in some sort of rotation with the others.
Not a bad problem to have.

Quote from fenn68 on August 21, 2025, 5:34 amI guess we saw the "Doctor Jekyll" version of Sears ... 6 inning / 1 run.
Just some caution from watching him yesterday. First, he was facing a poor hitting team ... his "stuff" looks hittable and he will need plus command to navigate through 5-6 innings.
The one thing to watch is (according to the announcers) he is an extreme flyable pitcher. That may benefit his performance at PETCO (with the marine layer) and in some of the bigger NL West parks. On the flip side, some of the more HR friendly parks will be an issue.
Only one observation ... but looks like useful bottom of the rotation arm.

Arraez makes a great #9 hitter
