As Shildt said...if it was obvious why did it take almost 3 minutes to make the call and if it wasn't obvious they shouldn't have over turned the call on the field.
Last night was one of those games where everything went against us...balls hitting bases,HR's taken away...bloop singles....
This isn't a great time to go cold.
Need to stop the slide immediately

Quote from fenn68 on August 19, 2025, 8:55 amNever happy about losing ... but maybe more frustrated by slumps (that always happen) being as deep by each player and the simultaneous nature of the key players slumping. Always in hope when on player slumps another picks up the slack ... not happening recently, in the last 5 games:
#3 Machado ...2 for 20 ...0 HR / 0 RBI ... 231/231/231
#4 Merrill ... 3 for 15 ... 0 HR / 0 RBI ... 200/200/267
#5 Bogaerts ... 3 for 19 ... 0 HR / 0 RBI ... 158/238/263
Not good from the middle of the order and from three of the long term franchise players. The "help" from the rest of the order just is not enough to offset the core struggling.
Yes, only a five game window, but scanning the season each has also had their own long, deep slumps (along with Tatis). So far the offsets have worked (bolstered by great pitching) and they have won but have to hope this recent confluence of slumps does not happen again ...or in the playoffs.
Underlying concern is that the Padres are 22nd in MLB in runs scored but looking at individual stat lines a string of "above average" hitters ... team is 9th in BA / 8th in OBP but a woeful 25th in SLG. Why so low in SLG when you have Tatis, Machado, Merrill, and Bogaerts who historically displayed more power? Hard to be overly critical since they do win games and are in a playoff slot ... but could this be the achilles heal in the playoffs vs quality pitching?

Quote from Alex Tamayo on August 19, 2025, 9:02 amI see a lot of controversy with the O'Hearnd situation, but, looking into his numbers, he is a career .209 hitter vs lefties, also, even though he is hitting .279 this year vs southpaws, still that is only in 70 PAs, meaning the Orioles picked their spots to put him vs LHP, or some of those PAs happend because he was a PH and the other team brought a left handed reliever from the bullpen, so, I guess, Schildt may not be as wrong as many think, who knows.

Quote from fenn68 on August 19, 2025, 3:54 pmTook a deeper dive into the offensive scoring woes ... this time production with RISP. Starting with the fact that the Padres are 10th in MLB for PA with runners in scoring position (that is good showing players are getting on base) BUT fall to 18th in runs scored. Getting them on ... getting them over ... letting them die.
As with the overall stats ... although some weakness in BA with RISP (20th) / OBP with RISP (16th) ... we return to the culprit being SLG were the Padres sit a 27th. Note that HR is dead last at #30 with only 18 HR with RISP.
Frustrating that the scoring opportunities are there ... the talent is in the players based on their pasts ... and they are not getting in done. I guess if production starts to move to their histories ... better times should come ... just hope it is this year and in the playoffs.
We should be really be appreciating the bullpen that has been the key to winning all season ... group MVP award?

Quote from ultratvfan on August 19, 2025, 4:41 pmThe Padres should win this one tonight. Pivetta is on the mound and the Padres raked Teng for 7 runs last week knocking him out in the 2nd inning. Let's hope they can do it again.
