What would it take to get Robbie Ray? Dude has been a consistently good lefty for quite awhile.

Maybe he's the short term, quality SP we need to get us over the hump?

Given the demand for good SP and the willingness of SF to eat some contract ... will require a pretty good prospect. Mayfield?

For a 2 month rental( at maybe....$8 million?) no one will give up their top pitching prospect.

Maybe someone at DCL or ACL level? This is almost similar to the deal that brought us Tatis, right? A veteran to help in a playoff run?

I think you can look at what guys like Jack Flaherty and Yusei Kikuchi went for 2 years ago to get an idea of what Ray might bring back. They're probably looking for a borderline top 100 headliner and another decent prospect or 2. That also lines up with what The Mets are reportedly asking for in talks for Freddy Peralta.

Jase Bowen absolutely crushed his first MLB homer, to the 2nd (or was it the 3rd) deck of the West Metal Supply Company.

With the PHIL loss, Padres move to only 1 game behind the slumping PHILs for the last WC slot. Also, added a game difference over the losing PITT, WASH, STL (and all three are slumping). AZ keeps winning and MIA is again winning and remains a game behind SD.

The recent performances by STL, WASH, and PITT might move them to be sellers (or a least stand pat) as the odds of the playoffs have fallen. Fewer buyers / more sellers ... good for Preller maybe?

Even though it was against a poor SF team ... have to give some credit to the work of Matsui and Marquez ... each gave innings of shutout ball. The high leverage pen arms remain fresher to back up Buehler and King over the weekend.

Hopefully they are on and SF remains as they were for Friday's game.

Pitching was solid and the Padres needed that.  One game behind the Phillies. Dbacks won. The Cubs lost. I am eying the 4th spot because who ever has it will have play at home in the wild card.

Got to celebrate the Cronenworth walk off for about 30 seconds before I got the Skubal notification.

Cronenworth walks it off.

Padres remain a game behind the Phillies. Actually it is 2 games because the Phillies hold the tiebreaker.

Padres 12 back of the Dodgers. They gained 3 games within the last week.

King on the mound tomorrow

GO PADRES!

Any chance Jake has done enough since his return to make some team think he'd be a missing piece to a championship run?

King pulled from today's start ... take your choice:

    1. pushed back to Monday for the critical match-up with AZ, or
    2. held out so as not to get injured IF circumstances turn into a trade using King (unlikely but)

Hart will start in another "chaos" day.

Game 4 Lineup

1. Rengifo LF

2. Cronenworth 2B

3. Machado DH

4. France 1B

5. Merrill CF

6. Campusano C
