Quote from ultratvfan on April 29, 2025, 9:06 pmThe Padres shake off the slump and 4-game losing streak to beat the Giants and Webb their best pitcher.
Pivetta look really good tonight. Estrada did not. But, Morejon, Adam, and Suraez were solid with Suarez earning his 11th save of the season.
Everone except Tatis and Sheets got a hot. Machado , Bogaerts, Heyword, and Diaz had multi hits. Kudos to Bogaerts for going 2 for 4, 3 RBI and a 2-run HR to give the Padres insurance rubs.
King on the mound tomorrow. Get out the broom. It's time to sweep.
Go Padres!

Quote from fenn68 on April 30, 2025, 5:39 amHopefully the hard hit balls by Bogaerts are a sign he is returning to "normal" ... then with Arraez back and Merrill / Cronenworth likely back in about a week the Padres offense should be more productive.
Other pieces to watch:
- Machado over the past 14 days (42 PA) has a paltry .556 OPS with 0 HR ... terrible for a cornerstone of the team batting 3rd when the slumping Padres needed his bat. Will getting the other bats back in turn get Machado out of his funk? He is critical for the season.
- Sheets had a hot start for the Padres but in the past days (41 PA) has slumped to 211/268/342 (610) ... and that is a lot "closer" to his CWS history (230/295/385 ... 680) than his hot start plus in that timeframe his K% has jumped to 30%. Not sure on an alternative but not idea for the DH slot.
- None of the call-ups have shown they can impact in the ML.
In about a month our focus should turn to the productivity out of LF, DH, and C. Don't see much they can do at C (just not much talent available) but LF/DH will be points of debate. As it stands Heyward / Sheets are the LHH side but both cannot hit LHP (and maybe anyone at an acceptable level). Gonzalez / Joe from the right side have not impressed.
Other than testing Perlaza (switch hitter) at the ML level nothing in EP I have confidence in ... so maybe in mid-June Preller is out looking for a legit upgrade at DH and/or LF.

If I am not mistaken, the broadcasting team pointed out this Is the first Time they go 5-0 vs NL West teams to start the season.
This was a very nice and tough mini series, It felt like the Giants kept coming every time.

Quote from 3fingersplit on May 1, 2025, 5:24 pmI had the good fortune of getting to go the last game of the two game set compliments of my daughter...my health has fallen off the cliff and I start chemotherapy next Wednesday and hope that it buys me enough time to get through this season...it was a great game to see...the offense did it the right way...long ball, ran the bases well, made the pitcher work and took advantage of just about every possibility given to them but the play that stuck out in my mind was the stop that Manny made and had the where withal to fire a strike to Xander at second base that really blunted a comeback inning for the Giants and the scoreboard lit up and just said "You just got Machadoed" ...it was as good a play as I've ever seen and Manny just did his whole low key persona of...just another day at the ballpark...trust me when I say this...you don't see that everyday...what a great play. The other thing is that Jason Adam is the only pitcher in the Bigs right now that actually hooks every pitch as it comes out of his hand and it's a deadly delivery because his release point literally changes from pitch to pitch...I'm glad he is on our side and King threw the ball well and used the whole zone. Suarez was nails and throwing straight gas...97-100 mph was just so awesome to see...shut down closer. From an offense standpoint...Tatis is worth the price of admission everyday...what a ballplayer and having Luis Arraez back in the lineup changes everything...he is as good a hitter as there is in MLB and I hope the Padres figures out a way to keep him because this is a very different team when he is in the lineup. All in all just a great day at Petco and I'm glad I got to experience it one more time
Day off today and then Pittsburgh...gotta get at least a split or better...the NL West is nails and the Dodgers are the Dodgers, the D Backs will have at least one or two one or two streaks in them and look unbeatable, the Rockies are not good but can ruin anybody's party and can't be taken lightly but these Giants are a pesky team that does not quite and they just keep coming back at you...I'm going to enjoy as much as I can until I can't and I enjoyed yesterday as much as any game I game recall in 50 plus years of watching my Padres.
Go Pads !!!
