RHP Dylan Cease(8-11, 4.59 ERA, 201 K, .238 BAA) vs RHP Davis Martin(6-10, 4.01 ERA, 95 K, .249 BAA)Saturday, September 20 - 4:10pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Yu Darvish(4-5, 5.63 ERA, 60 K, .232 BAA) vs RHP Yoendrys Gómez(3-2, 4.91 ERA, 49 K, .234 BAA)Sunday, September 21 - 11:10am, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Michael King(4-3, 3.84 ERA, 69 K, .228 BAA) vs RHP Sean Burke(4-10, 4.29 ERA, 119 K, .252 BAA)The Padres have nine games to go and will finish their final road trip of the 2025 season playing the second worst team in MLB. I hope they play better against tbis team after coming off a disappointing series and dropping to 3 games back of the Dodgers. Cease will be facing his old team and, IMO, King will bounce back after a rough outing. Let's hope Darvish is on top of his game.
The playoff picture is starting to become clear. The Brewers and Phillies can't be caught and will be the #1 and #2 seeds.
Although they have not officially clinched a playoff spot, it is clear that the Padres will be in the playoffs, barring a historic collapse, either winning the division as the #3 seed or a wild card as the #5 seed:• As NL West Champ they will play the #6 seed which would be the Mets, Diamondbacks, Reds or Giants at Petco Park.
• As a wildcard, they will most likely play the Cubs in Chicago or a extremely slim chance playing the Phillies in Philadelphia.
• If they play the Dodgers in the playoffs, it will be in the NLCS.While the Padres are taking care of the White Sox, the Dodgers will be battling it out with the Giants in a 4-game series.

Quote from BoosterSD on September 19, 2025, 9:17 amThe Sunday game I will be in attendance at Rate field. Then follow up with a Tuesday night game at Wrigley Field. First trip to Chicago, except layovers at O'Hare.
I look forward to some good weather, a couple of cold beers, and hopefully a laugher victory for the brown and gold!

Quote from ultratvfan on September 19, 2025, 11:19 amThis weekend the Brewers are playing the Cardinals and the Cubs are playing the Reds. If the Brewers win 2 games this weekend and the Cubs lose 2 games, then the Brewers will win the NL Central Division and will have home field advantage if the Dbacks sweep the Phillies and the Brewers sweep the Cardinals.
If these things happen this weekend, the Brewers will have nothing to play for when they come to Petco Park on Monday. Wouldn't this give the Padres the advantage? I would think so. We can only hope.

Quote from fenn68 on September 19, 2025, 12:25 pmAlthough it seems as though the Padres are locked into the #5 slot in the playoffs and aligning with the Cubs in Chicago for the 3 games set ... Padres still need to show some strong winning to give them some confidence going into Chicago. (yes, mathematically possible to move up or down and MILW replacing the Cubs ... would take some real collapses over the next 9 games).
So, means little in the playoffs, but and interesting comparison of the season performance of the Padres and Cubs:
- Offense:
- Runs scored: SD Away (325 12th in NL) vs CUBS Home (348 7th in NL) ... slight advantage to CUBS but not suggesting either is an offensive juggernaut;
- Pitching:
- Runs allowed: SD Away (259 1st in NL) vs CUBS Home (300 4th in the NL) ... slight advantage to the Padres and suggesting a pitching dominated series.
So, would seem a pretty even match in Chicago. I still think the key for the Padres is top performances by Pivetta and King ... and if needed the 3rd starter used. Padres offense is weak ... Cubs pitching is strong and if good pitching stops good hitting, then the Padres SP has to be on top form to shut down the Cubs and squeeze out narrow victories.
So, we likely will get a series of 10-9 games with the wind blowing out at Wrigley and proving all the stats are useless.

Quote from MrPadre19 on September 19, 2025, 1:43 pmSure would be nice to score some runs early and take some pressure off our starters so they can go 6 or 7.
Every game it seems is close or we're behind early.
It's the White Sox....score early and score often.

Best place to watch an MLB game- in the bleachers on a sunny afternoon in Wrigley!

Saying our O is weak is very kind, Fenn.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on September 19, 2025, 3:20 pmIf they want to keep some small amount of hope for the division alive they need a sweep. Getting set up for the playoffs might be the bigger focus at this point. To that end I want to see strong efforts from our starters this series. Hopefully Bogaerts can also come back in time to get into a couple of games before the regular season ends.

That’s awesome…..enjoy!
I still need to get to Wrigley at some point.
Saw original Yankee Stadium and I’ve been to Fenway….but not Wrigley.
