San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals: July 23-25

Waldron was solid after the first innings. Padres score 12 runs on 20 hits.
Nats 2B Vargas pitched in 9th and that was the strangest pitching that I have ever seen with the high lobs and he was smiling the entire time. It was a comedy.
Let's sweep tomorrow.

A series win…if the padres can just do that every 3 game series =.667 winning %
3 out of 4=.750 winning %
that will get them into the playoffs for sure
This team is one of those that nobody really wants to see in the playoffs…regular season doesn’t mean a thing…they have the pitching to give other teams headaches and when the bats show up they are a scary bunch
A sweep would be great

The other good thing about the win yesterday was that Matsui did not walk anyone and de los Santos did not give up a HR; this has been the Achille's heel for both pitchers but they maintained focus even with the big lead. I still think need to add another RP to replace Reynolds or Davis and hope we can get a decent one without giving up too much. I'd love a Kirby Yates reunion and hoping Alek Jacob down in EP is now fully healed from his injuries - that would be a big plus even if Cosgrove is not quite ready to return.

Solano at 3B today with Machado DH.
Arraez is getting the day off. Did notice Arraez wincing in pain / shaking his hand after a number of swings yesterday … maybe a lingering effect of his earlier injury.

IF Cease has a long performance today and the pen is not over taxed … same with King tomorrow … Padres could go with a bullpen day on SAT vs calling up a spot starter given not a lot of great options.
Padres are off on Monday and Thursday … so once past SAT the SP begin getting some extra rest and the four man rotation goes a bit longer.

Acee says they want to give King an extra rest day. It sounds like we'll probably see someone come up to make a spot start or serve as the opener in a bullpen day tomorrow.

Well if they want to go with a bullpen day Dylan Cease did a pretty damn good job of making sure they'll all be rested. A no-hitter with only 1 batter over the minimum faced. WOW!!!

History has been made.
DYLAN CEASE PITCHES NO-HITTER AND THE SECOND NO-HITTER IN PADRES HISTORY.
He is also the first pitcher this season to pitch a complete game. The BP got much needed rest.
Congrats to Dylan.
The Padres had not thrown a no-hitter in 53 years and now they have thrown two in the last 3 years.
I have to admit I was worried Shildt was going to pull him after 7 IP. But, thankfully he did not. Crase went 114 pitches.
Also, The Padres swept the season series from the Nats.
Bring on the Orioles.

Padres inch back to the 3rd Wild Card slot … in a virtual tie with the NYM for the 2nd Wild Card slot.
