We’re about to be swept again.

Then we get the Braves,Cubs &  Dodgers for two weeks.

We’re about to be 5 games under .500….if we’re lucky

Do you believe in reverse psychology?

Buehler was outstanding. Who'd ever thought he would be the best pitcher on the team this time in the season. Miller closes the door.

Today, Machado is the game's offense MVP. He went 2 for 5, 3-run HR and 5 RBI.

Need to win the rubber match.

GO PADRES!

Orioles beat Yamamoto and the Dodgers. Padres move back up to 9 games back.

The Padres announced that utilityman Nick Solak has been designated for assignment.  Miguel Andujar was activated from the 10-day injured list in the corresponding move.

============================================================

I guess that means Solak had no minor league options. Puts the 40 man roster down to 39.

Giolito was terrible. Would have been better to bring in Hart.

Giolito vs Canning vs Marquez vs Waldron ... who can avoid pitching worse to survive to the All-Star game? Doubt any will "win" the slots with great pitching ... so who amongst them will the Padres project as being the best for the rest of the season?

If equally poor (likely) ... Waldron may have an advantage since he is controlled beyond 2026 and the others are FA after the season. Also if the season goes south ... might see Brito up (doing OK in his rehabs) and finish the season with Waldron / Brito at the back end.

Side note (this is the cheap part of me) ... IF the Padres release any (or all) of Giolito, Canning, or Marquez they have to pay the remainder of their 2026 salaries BUT all have 2027 buyouts on mutual options ... that would be voided if released and the Padres would save a $3.750MM. I doubt any team would make a waiver claim but if they did some additional savings for the salary for the rest of the season.

Opting for Waldron and Brito probably is not worse and, per Acee last week, there is a CHANCE Pivetta and Musgrove return in August. Pivetta is apparently throwing with a bit more effort so (baring a setback) could ramp up by August. Less confident in Musgrove who is still in light toss, I think, and has not pitched in a game since SEP 2024 ... so pushing two years ... and even if can return hard to imagine he would be effective. However, since he is under contract for 2027 it might be of benefit to get him back in competitive games in 2026 to prove he can stay healthy and for him mentally.

How about Hart being put back in the string role for now. He can't do worse the Giolito and Canning.

The Padres remain 9 games back because the Orioles took the Dodgers to the cleaners 12-1 taking the series.
