The Padres are coming off back-to-back 4 games splits and head to Tampa Bay to face the Rays for the final series of the month before the final stretch of the regular season. The Padres took 2 of 3 from the Rays, one of the best teams of 2023, last season at Petco.

I see this as a crucial series as the Dodgers and Dbacks face off and battle it out. I hope the Dodgers are snake bitten all 4 games. The Padres are 1 game behind the Dbacks and 5 games behind the Dodgers. If, and I mean if, the Padres sweep the Rays and the Dodgers are swept by the Dbacks, the Padres will be 1.5 games back of the Dodgers and Dbacks.

Padres pitching has been struggling. But Perez might be the most rested arm opening this series because he pitched 3.2 innings against the Mets on Sunday and allowed only run in 4 hits. Vasquez is coming off a solid game allowing 2 runs in 6 IP against the Cardinals. This will be his second start since returning. Cease has been struggling and has had 3 starts in the 18-game stretch and has a 4.43 ERA in August. I have an idea. If Darvish is ready by Sunday, activated him and give Cease an extra day off.

The Rays are 28th in runs scored with 508 and 28th in batting with .220 avg. The Padres are 9th with 643 runs and lead the MLB in batting with a .265 avg.

GO PADRES!

One down and two to go…get the win tomorrow and it’s a winning road trip. This team brought the bats tonight and just gotta get through this and get home.

I love baseball but playing for almost a month straight and all the traveling, hotels, restaurants and time changes is brutal…27 games in 28 days and finally a day off Tuesday

Go Padres!!!

Big night for the offense. I would have liked to see Perez get deeper into the game after being staked to a huge lead. At least he settled down and got through 5 after the bad second inning. Sean Reynolds has been super impressive in his limited big league time so far. 21 Ks in 11 innings. With the DBacks and Dodgers playing each other we're guaranteed to gain on one of them tonight.

I was a little worried that the Padres were going blow a 7-0 lead. But they hung on and took game 1.  Now, let's hope the Dbacks beat the Dodgers. They are tied 5-5 after 3 innings with a lot of game to go.

After this series, the Padres games are all on the west coast for the rest of the regular season. Easier travel.

Let's take game 2 tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Dodgers beat the Dbacks.

It looks like the Rays called up Logan Driscoll who was part of the Emilio Pagan trade years ago. It looks like he was doing fairly well in AAA.

Padres call up Jacob and option Reynolds … fresh arm in the pen after some heavy work by Reynolds over that past few days.

Higashioka scratched due to flu like symptoms … Campy in at C.

Glad to have Jacob back.

Cronenworth with the 2 run shot right after Profar had the bat taken out of his hands by the ump. You love to see it.

You want to think that umpires are also humans and try to be ok with their mistakes, but darn, they are so bad sometimes 🤦.
