The Padres are coming off a disappinting loss and now head to St. Louis to face the tough Cardinals in a 4-game set. The Padres have always had a tough time against them in St. Louis and they are not hitting well right now nor have they played well on the road. But, let's hope the offense comes alive. I hope to see Bergert in game 4.

While the Padres need to do their part and win, let's hope the BoSox beat the Dodgers and and Mets beat the Giants.

Top NL West games: Dodgers(60-43) at Red Sox(54-49), Giants(54-49) host Mets(59-44)

GO PADRES!

Game 1 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Bogaerts SS
6. Sheets DH
7. Cronenworth 2B

Darvish P

The offense showed up tonight. But, Darvish was terrible giving up 8 runs in 3.1 innings.

Pivetta on the mound tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Apparently Kolek is pitching Sunday. They should option him back to El Paso and bring back Bergert, who is a much better pitcher.

Might be on hold pending trade(s) ... either of Bergert or Cease (then call up Bergert if Cease is traded) ... or (possible) IL of Darvish if he does not improve in next start. Also they may want to showcase Kolek for a trade.

More likely they still like Kolek's upside and may like Bergert down the road (but not a lock on being better at this point) and just don't want to make moves just to make moves.

High probability that both Kolek and Bergert are in the starting rotation in August.

Bergert has been great in his Cup of Coffee in 2025 but I think we still need to limit expectations.

He was our 21st rated prospect for a reason.

Hopefully he turns into a solid #2-#3 SP for us.....but if this brief start has been mostly smoke and mirrors maybe he's at least upped his trade value.

I'd be OK trading him if other teams are buying in to his 6 ML starts more than our own Scouts are.

Game 2 Lineup

8. Iglesias 3B

Pivetta P

Hart (L) optioned to EP ... Marinaccio (R) recalled.

Guessing the Padres wanted another RHRP. Hart looks good out of the pen ... wonder if the Padres might consider him as a future LHRP given the recent weak performance by Matsui? He did not look good as a SP.

Pivetta was outstanding. The loss was 0% his fault. It was due to bad defense and lack of run support. How does a team get 11 hits and not one single run.

It seems like there's been a lot of self inflicted damage lately. Yesterday a 2 out walk to the 9 hole hitter led to the big rally for the Cardinals. Today a HBP and an error leads to the first run. The other 2 are the result of walks in front of a double. I guess it doesn't matter when you don't score. They aren't making it any easier on themselves though.
