Quote from ultratvfan on May 16, 2026, 7:47 pmThe Padres hang on to win the series.
High five to another HR by Sheets and Castellanos and Duran's HR, first MLB hit.
All there years, I have been waiting for a solid bottom of the lineup to start hitting and we finally get it. Now the big 3-Merrill, Tatis and Machado are not. Again they were O-fer today.
Tomorrow, Giolito makes his season debut. I hope gets it done.
Time to get out the brooms!
GO PADRES!

Quote from fenn68 on May 17, 2026, 5:11 amLooking at the past week (6 games):
Merrill - Tatis - Machado ... 6 for 63 (.105 BA) / 0 HR / 1 RBI
Andujar - Castellanos - Sheets ... 19 for 57 (.300 BA) / 5 HR / 15 RBI
Given the zero production out of the top 3 in the order (and presumed cornerstones of the line-up) it is amazing the Padres have gone 4-2 in those 6 games against good teams in MILW and SEA.
In the "what if" game ... "what if" the big three actually hit or start hitting, what kind of record could the Padres have / get to ... or ... "what if" the others didn't hit or stop hitting, what kind of record could the Padres have / get to?
Going to be an a real journey into the unknown for the rest of the season with the potential of dramatically different outcomes.

Quote from fenn68 on May 17, 2026, 5:23 amAnother view that the future is a big question:
YTD the Padres are 29th in the ML in OPS and 16th in ERA ... basically well below average in offense and pitching.
Yet, they are tied for 5th in fewest losses. Product of some clutch hitting and come from behind efforts. Have to expect some "normalization" ... just how does that impact winning?

Quote from ultratvfan on May 17, 2026, 7:18 pmThe Padres sweep and season series sweep the Mariners. They remain 1/2 game back of the Dodgers.
Giolito was outstanding allowing only 1 hit in 5 IP before he struggled in the 6th.
Sheets is amazing. 2 HR today and 4 RBI. He leads the club with 9 HR. He was on base 5 times. France went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.
Even Tatis, Merrill and Machado each got a hit.
Bring on the Dodgers.
