My guess is they are “nursing” his femoral stress reaction recovery by a planned series of rest days off his feet (leg).
Might be different if the Padres were not in the Wild Card driver’s seat but trying to avoid a worse case scenario of sending him back to the IL by over stressing that injury with every day work.

The Padres have swept the Giants. This game kept me on the edge of my seat.
The Padres are 20 games over .500 for the first time since 2010, are 9-1 in extra inning games, win the season series from the Giants and don't play them any more this season.
Perez was outstanding and Nando hits his 4th HR in 4 straight games.
Bring on the Astros!
