To be on the bright side for this moment. They are playing bad baseball; however, realistically we never thought they would win the division. They are still well within the running for a Wild Card, always the realistic goal. We are expecting some better SP back soon. And if we can upgrade LF, even a little, the team should finish strong down the stretch.

Profar is probably coming back tomorrow for ATL, If they don't recover he might be available 😬

IMO, ATL would have to paydown a lot of Profar's contract to make it worth SD to take him back.

Sounds like today's game is likely to be cancelled and made up with a double header tomorrow.

Padres are not going after him at $15MM in 2026 and 2027 ... plus he is not eligible for the playoffs in 2025 per the suspension.

I would take him ... with his contract paid down by ATL and for a minimal trade chip. No idea what ATL thinks of him post the PED suspension but they did sign him ... so hard for them to back off for zip.

Uh....Schildt needs to bench Manny for not running out of the box. Hits the wall and only a single? Bad form, Manny!

Ends up costing us a run. If he's on 2nd when FTJ gets a 2 out single, he runs home.

Schildty definitely should send a message.

I have noticed many times that instead of hustling it to first when the ball slowly rolls to an infielder, he just gives it up for the out. He should watch old videos and learn from Charlie Hustle. I have seen many players hustle and beat out an infield hit.

Great catch by Merrill to rob a home run.

That was the problem with Profar, and honestly the problem with Arraez this season, but more so with Profar. The value that they brought to SD is not really tangible with the rest of the league. ATL way over paid for what they thought Profar really is, a dud unless he is in a SD uniform. Same with Arraez, not many teams value the slap/high average hitter, so while he is best fit for SD(same as Profar) SD should set a value for Arraez and not overpay if some team gets stupid. Like last season with Profar and ATL.

Manny is not going to change ... his version of "load management" that is now common in the NBA. Been that way as long as I have watched him. Picks his spots to go all out but otherwise believes he is saving his body for the long haul.

Trade for Profar and Laureano and we can have "three" guys who were suspended for PED's

I guess teams have to weigh the magnitude of a need that has to be filled, the alternatives (real alternatives not theoretical), the projection on the players, and the all important cost in terms of a contract (and trade chips if a trade). Sometimes that settles at a questionable decision.

Clearly Preller looked at the options ... had set a cap on what he would pay for Profar ... and concluded Profar was over priced. Who knows ATL's decision tree. 3 years / $45MM always seemed well over priced ... especially the 3 year commitment.

When it comes to Arraez, I would expect the same dynamics with Preller setting a value and not budging. Good chance he lets Arraez test the FA market to get a real sense of market value (and it only takes one team to be his ATL). He is making $14MM which in my view is an overpay ... especially in SD.

Arraez has an odd profile given he is at best a 1B only without power and takes few walks so basically from an OPS view somewhat "average" even with the batting titles. Of note in his career he hit much better in MINN and in MIA plus has been a plus hitter on the road. His biggest struggle is hitting at PETCO where career-wise he is below average. If Preller is viewing that PETCO profile ... his valuation has to be restrained. If other teams view the non-PETCO performance that should (could) generate a stronger contract.

Purely on a player view ... I would have Arraez at about $10MM and since he is still in his 20s likely a 3-5 year contract. Not optimum but on a team that wants to be a contender ... that already is looking for more offense ... hard to find multiple impact hitters for a better price. So, are there real alternatives to Arraez? Would Arraez take that pay decrease and is there any team that would top that ... probably yes with a higher AAV.
