The Padres announced that first baseman/outfielder Nick Castellanoshas been designated for assignment. Infielder/outfielder Samad Taylorhas been selected to take his place on the active and 40-man rosters.

So does this mean Nick has been cut i.e. he longer is employed by the San Diego Padres baseball club? Or he has been assigned to one of our minor league affiliates? Also assuming Nick can refuse the "reassignment" and become a free agent?

Be cool if Nick takes the opportunity to get in some AB's in AAA, and some OF reps just to keep fresh so when they outright Bowen, we'll have a vet ready to go👍🏽

Yeh, he is gone ... maybe technically is on waivers but once cleared will be released.

Listened to a PHIL talk show ... after the Padre DFA ... and they basically think his career is over with discussion that the player is usually last to know his skills are gone. That was the case last year in PHIL and why (among other things) they DFA him owing him $20MM for this year.

Again, didn't see game but did Matsui's throw totally miss France? Or did Ty miss it again?

Throw was bad ... low and to the home side of 1B by a good margin and France would have had to rotate opposite from the natural move to make a tag on the runner. This one is on the pitcher.

The throw was bad. My issue with it is that it shouldn't have happened at all. Turner didn't have much of a lead. There was no chance they were picking him off there. The best result from throwing over changes nothing. There is only downside. With 2 outs just focus on getting the batter out.
