Friday, August 29 - 5:10pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
LHP Nestor Cortes(2-2, 4.66 ERA, 25 K, .224 BAA) vs RHP Zebby Matthews(3-4, 5.30 ERA, 67, .288 BAA)Saturday, August 30 - 4:10pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Nick Pivetta(13-4, 2.82 ERA, 161 K, .187 BAA) vs RHP Taj Bradley(6-7, 4.95 ERA, 96 K, .244 BAA)Sunday, August 31 - 10:05am, TV: Roku
?HP ???(---, -.-- ERA, --- K, .--- BAA) vs RHP Joe Ryan(12-7, 3.22 ERA, 166 K, .213 BAA)After a tough series losing to the Mariners and dropping to two games back of the Dodgers, the Padres head to Minnesota to play the Twins for the final series of the month. They are fortunate to miss top pitcher Pablo Lopez(IL), but not Ryan. Buxton is the toughest of the hitters. If he can be shut down for the series and Padre pitching is solid, as it should be, then Padres should sweep the Twins.
Both Merrill and King could be back this series, which would be really be good. I hope to see King pitch on Sunday. If not, it would be either Vasquez or Hart. Please not Hart. Sears was just optioned back to AAA El Paso. So, it would thankfully not be him. Another thing is that only two current players are hitting below .247 avg -- Iglesias(.228 avg) and Diaz(.198 avg). That is pretty good.
This weekend, the Dodgers(77-57), who just lost Vesia to the 15-day IL, host the Dbacks(65-69), who are tougher than their record indicates.
GO PADRES!

Quote from BoosterSD on August 28, 2025, 1:20 pmUltra, thanks for doing these. Its awesome that you invest your time for our Padres addiction on here. Just to update your rundown section, both Correa and Bader were traded at the deadline, should make the lineup a little softer.
Thank you again for the great threads!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on August 28, 2025, 1:48 pmI don't think the Twins have actually announced a starter for Sunday yet either. They've reconfigured their rotation a bit lately. It could be Bradley, but Joe Ryan is also on track for Sunday.
King is supposed to throw another sim game or make a rehab start before he gets activated. Vasquez will almost certainly get the start for us. Merrill can be activated on Saturday. Hopefully he's ready to go.

Quote from Alex Tamayo on August 28, 2025, 4:00 pmConsidering the Pads have a negative record on the road, I think a sweep would be too much to ask, I'll be happy if they get two, and somehow the DBacks get one from the Dodgers, keeping the bums within distance, remember our guys close the year with 16 home games out of 25, the bums close the year with 15 road games out of the same 25, so, just don't lose this next series... Please.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on August 29, 2025, 3:50 pmBogaerts went on the IL with a fractured foot. He's likely done for the rest of the regular season at a minimum. McCoy was called up. That's a pretty big blow.

From today's DFR ...
From the number eight hole, Mason McCoy put together a 3-for-4 day with a double which registered a 102.3 mph exit velocity. In 90 games for El Paso, he owns a .804 OPS. While he has a strong 87% in-zone contact rate, it’s rarely loud contact. His 84.9 average exit velocity and 33.6% hard hit rate rank in the 12th and 25th percentile among Triple-A hitters.
