Padres sweep of the Marlins was needed. They gained a game on the Dodgers, I know they are unlikely to overcome them. They are are only 2 games behind the 3rd wild card spot.  Only 4 teams, as mentioned in a previous post, stand ind the way. They could pass the Cardinals, who play the Cubs, in the next series.

King opens the 2-game set against the Rockies.
