Cardinals(52-50) host Reds(47-54) 1.5 GB

Marlins (52-51) at host Padres(50-53) 2 GB

Nationals(52-51) host Dbacks(54-49) 2 GB

Padres(49-50) at Marlins(52-41) 4 GB

Padres are 2 games behind the Marlins and Nationals. They can move ahead of both, especially the Marlins with a sweep.

I think a sweep of the Marlins is fairly unreasonable at this time even with MIA's current losing streak. Especially because they dropped 2 of 3 to the Royals, who are an even worse team.

Best hope is they only win one and Preller sees this as the flawed team that it is, and doesnt waste prospects chasing a losing season!

Not unreasonable and quite possible.

The Padres moved up to 3 games behind the 3rd spot and ahead of the Marlins in the wild card standings

They did what they needed and swept the Marlins ... closing the gap to a wild card slot ... the bats are working ... COLO next at home and they should be beatable. Then SF at home before the trade deadline.

Take a breath tomorrow and come into the next six strong!

Last playoff slot has:

51 losses ... AZ

========== in pursuit

52 losses .... PITT - WASH - STL

53 losses .... SD alone

two losses difference for 5 wild card contenders ... and Padres have 56 games to play (others about the same) ... it is anyone's game right now.

Side: PHIL is on a losing streak and although in the #2 WC slot carry 49 losses and not out of reach by any of the contenders if they continue to falter just a bit.

Game on!
