San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers: Sept 24-26

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

The Padres can clinch the top wildcard spot with a win tomorrow and a Mets loss.

What a way to clinch a playoff spot. That will be on highlight reels for years and years to come. Hopefully we find a few more reasons to celebrate this year.

A lot of kudos around from yesterday’s game but I don’t want to miss King’s effort.

He started off shakey … command was not really there … Bogaert’s error could have unnerved him … playing in a key game vs the #1 team … yet in he delivered 5 innings with only the one unearned run on 3 hits / 2 BB. Gutty performance.

Finally I get to take a breath...Padres will be playing October Baseball and what a way to clinch it...A triple play against the Dodgers. The question I have and haven't been able to really answer is...Who is the MVP of this team ?

The options are endless and I would just say that this is a TEAM that has thrived on every player being an important part so I'm thinking it might just be AJ Preller or Mike Shildt...AJ had to put this team together with the edict of staying UNDER the CBT and he has done as good a job as I've ever seen from a Padres GM/President...getting who he got for Soto...King has been a stud, Thorpe gets flipped for Dylan Cease, Vasquez has done a fine job when needed, Brito got a taste and Higey has been a huge surprise and done a great job behind the plate. Adding Solano and Peralta and then getting Luis Arraez was masterful...this team finally had a true leadoff hitter and Arraez has changed this whole lineup...HR's are great but having a guy that can get base hits foul line to foul line is an artform and having Miami pay his salary. Bringing Jackson Merrill up and the rest is history and then flipping top prospects for a shut down bullpen (Adam, Hoeing, Scott) to go with Suarez, Morejon, Peralta, Estrada makes it a short game and a headache for other teams. Martin Perez and Matt Waldron did great work in the rotation....AJ has been nothing short of amazing and then you get to Mike Shildt...this team would have NEVER pulled this off with Bob Melvin and that might be the best move AJ has made in San Diego as a manager selection...the players obviously play for him instead of in spite of him and that is a special talent for a manager to have.

Will the Padres win the World Series ?.......I have no idea because there are so many things that have to fall the right way but I do know that this season has been one of the best in the history of this team and has been so much fun to watch and it's not over yet...in a season of improbable why not just finish it off right and snatch the NL West away from LA...roll through the playoffs and finally have a parade...Peter would like that.

The 2nd inning was much better.

The Padres lost, but they still have not lost the division. But, their chances just got slim.

Must win tomorrow. Let's take the series. Musgrove on the mound.

GO PADRES!

GO PADRES!

We need to win the last four and the Rox to win 2 of 3 from LA

The Rox will not have to face Flaherty. So, that might be a plus for the Padres. Might be. But, if the Padres lose tonight, none of that will matter. Game 3 is a must win.
