The Padres go on the road for the final time of the regular season against the Dodgers and Dbacks. They are 3 games behind the Dodgers and have the 3rd best record in the NL and 4th best record in MLB. The Padres can clinch a playoff berth with their next win and can move into first place with a sweep because they own the tiebreaker over the Dodgers having already won the season series. The Padres control their own destiny.

One of the the keys to winning this series is shutting down Ohtani. One way of doing that is taking the bat out of his hand by walking him whenever they can. Another one is shutting the Dodgers down at the end of game so they don't launch their notorious comebacks. They always have their top of the order in the 9th. The Padres need to score early and score many runs.

Padres pitching continues to be outstanding. King has a 2.00 ERA in 3 starts in September. Cease is coming off a solid back-to-back shutout out starts against the Giants and tough Astros, which he went 8.1 IP. Musgrove has pitched 5 shutout games and .090 ERA in 7 of his last 8 starts since his return from the IL.

This is going to be a good series and feel like the playoffs.

Shildt has really tightened up his bullpen usage lately. Peralta, Matsui and Jacob have all gone a week plus without pitching. We may need the 2 lefties in this one. Ohtani, Freeman, Muncy and Lux are all significantly worse against left handed pitching.

Dbacks lost to the Giants on Monday. They are now currently in the 3rd wild card spot with the Braves only 1.5 games behind.

I would just as soon walk Ohtani anytime there are runners on base if the game is close.Gotta keep in mind though if we walk him and 2b is open it's like giving up a double as he will likely steal 2b anyway.

Treat him like Bonds.

It sure would be nice to get a decent lead so we can use Matsui,Peralta and Jacob tonight and give the high leverage guys one more day off

as Flaherty may be our toughest task out of the 3 starters and we may need them more tomorrow than tonight.

10:15 starts the next 3 nights.....I feel tired already

Braves beat the Mets in game 1 of their head-to-head series.

Jake!

WOW! TRIPLE PLAY! and to end the game.

I have never witnessed a triple play in my life. This is the first and oh how exciting and awesome it was.

The Padres take game one and clinch the playoffs. Suarez had me worried and on the edge of my seat.

Let's take game 2.

GO PADRES!
