San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks: Sept 27-29

I'm sorry, but I don't think your question deserves an answer.

They aren't going to intentionally lose even if it would benefit them. I'm sure some regulars will get some rest just like they did today. Winning may not be the top priority, but whoever is in there will be giving it their all just like they did today.

Here is a thought for discussion.  Do we intentionally lose tomorrow to increase the odds of the Bravos/Muts having to play at least one game on Monday, if not two?  What is the group think on this topic?  Go Pads!

I don’t think players ever intentionally don’t try to do their best….too much for the individual is always riding on their performance.

But Coaches can rest players and bring in arms etc that may not put the team in its best situation to win….but “those players” are still trying to be successful.

Their future rides on their individual success

Higgy hits a 2-run shot, Lockridge hits his first MLB HR and Solano hits a 2-run shot. All in the 9th to help take the series and season series against the Dbacks, who lost 5 of their last 6 games. Vasquez and the BP was solid today.

The Padres move past the 1984 team for the second best record in franchise history.

A sweep of the snakes to end the season would be sweet.

GO PADRES!

Also, the 48th road win, is the most in team history!  Regular starters resting tonight were Arrez, Croney, Tatis & Merrill.  Additionally, no high leverage relievers used, Vasquez was great, following by Hoeing, Peralta & Matsui.

Did you know that Puk, before tonight, had been on a career best 25 consecutive scoreless outings.  Also, that was Higgy's 4th HR against the Snakes this year.  Wow!

I'm guessing for tomorrow, Manny, Bogey, Higgy, & Profar sit.  King will not be making his originally scheduled start, as Martin Perez will start.  I would be surprised if Adam, Scott or Suarez are used on Sunday, mostly likely none of them will be used.  Probably, the same RP pitchers will be used tomorrow (Hoeing, Peralta & Matsui).  Another possibility, would be for Vasquez to be sent down and Reynolds gets called up for another arm for the pen.  Go Pads!

I can’t see Arraez plying due to his hand issue.

Snakes are pitching a RH with not so good stats overall; LH batters are hitting .297 against Pfaadt.  Arraez looked pretty good on Friday, driving the ball to the right-center gap twice for a double and a triple.  I'm guessing Arraez wants to play and hit his way into his 3rd straight batting title vice sit and watch what Ohtani and Ozuna are doing.  If the hand is not bothering him in batting practice, he plays today at 1b.

For the final game of the season, I'm thinking:  Lockridge-Merrill-Peralta in the OF; Wade-Ahmed-Cronenworth-Arraez in the INF; Diaz at C; and Tatis, Jr. at DH.

Today's final regular season lineup
1. Arraez 1B
2. Tatis DH
3. Cronenworth 2B
4. Peralta, D. LF
5. Merrill CF
6. Ahmed SS
7. Diaz C
8. Wade RF
9. Lockridge RF

Perez P

Machado, Bogaerts and Profar sit.

Arraez gets his 200th hit of the season. Ohtani is 0-3. That should lock up the batting title. The Mets are up 5-0. The Braves are down 4-2. If all the scores hold they'll both need a win tomorrow in the double header to get into the playoffs. It could be a very good albeit weird day for the Padres.

Padres lost today.

Perez did not look good today. He gave up 6 runs on 8 hits in 3.2 IP. I wonder if pitching for the first time in 8 days is a factor. Waldron did not look good either giving up 5 runs on 8 hits.

Arraez goes 1 for 3 and finishes the season with a .314 avg. Ohtani goes 1-4 finishes the season with a .310 avg.

The Padres did finish the season winning the series and season series over the Dbacks, who are still in the playoff hunt.

Merrill finishes his rookie season 5th in batting with a .292 avg and could win a ROY and a GG.

The regular season ends. On to the wild card round.

GO PADRES!

The Dbacks and Mets win and the Braves lost.

Current Wild Card Race Standings
Padres(93-68)
Braves(88-72)
Mets(88-72)
-------------------------------------------
Diamondbacks(89-73)

If the Braves and Mets split the double header games on Monday, the Braves take the 5th spot and play the Padres.
If one team sweeps, that team and the D-backs qualify for the postseason.
The Dbacks can only get in the 6th spot and would head to Milwaukee to play the Brewers.

The Padres will either host the Mets or Braves. Who is the Padres best chance to advance?

Even though the Pads had a better season record against the Braves (4-3), I don't want to face Sale & Fried in a best of 3 series.  Sale has already beaten the Pads twice this season, even though his velo has been decreasing.  So, I'm hoping for the Mets, even though our record against them is 2-5.  Our starting pitching needs to be very strong.  Go Pads!
