RIP Peter Seidler
Quote from Jeremy Hill on November 14, 2023, 10:52 amThis certainly sheds a new light on some of the rumors we've been hearing. RIP to a great owner and man.

With profound sadness, the Padres announce that their Chairman and Owner Peter Seidler passed away today in San Diego. He will be dearly missed.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 14, 2023, 10:57 amI have been wondering about him for weeks now.....longer.
The last two seasons now seem to come more into focus.
Such a shame.....was a great man.
San Diego needed him to be around for a couple more decades.

Quote from BoosterSD on November 14, 2023, 11:07 amDefinitely a sad day, except for Kroc who saved the Padres from moving, probably the best owner of the Padres.
This makes the 2023 season even sadder now!

Quote from Notmyopic on November 14, 2023, 11:32 amthis is incredibly sad. My prayers to the family. It makes it harder that we didn’t win last year. Clearly he knew he wasn’t long for this world and desperately wanted to win while he was here. I know he didn’t win much, but he should go down as one of the greatest owners the padres have ever had because he tried.

Quote from sportwarrior on November 14, 2023, 11:36 amThis just makes me so, so sad. I think it's near impossible to describe to a non-San Diegan what he meant to our city. He rescued the team from years of severe mismanagement from an absolute disaster of an owner and, during a time of absolute heartbreak for a city who just lost one of its two sports franchises after 50+ plus years, footed the enormous bill it took to raise the spirits of a downtrodden and dispirited fanbase.
This makes the last season infinitely more heartbreaking. This man gave everything he had for over a decade, and all we could muster was one of the most disappointing years in sports history. Any yet, thanks to him, we can still hope for and dream of a championship in 2024.
If I still lived in town I'd absolutely be paying my respects. As it is, I'll just have to thank you here, Mr. Seidler.

Quote from WindsorUK on November 14, 2023, 1:00 pmThis is such terribly sad news for the Seidler family, as well as our Padres family.
Rest in peace to a good owner, and an even better man.

Quote from 84padres on November 15, 2023, 5:14 amI live in the Detroit area but have been a Padres fan since 1975 . There is a comparison of this ownership to the Tigers . Mike Illitch was a beloved figure for what he did with the Red Wings and what he tried to do with the Tigers . Very similar to what Pete did with the Padres . the Tigers were passed to Mikes son Chris and all he has done since he took over in 2017 is cut the payroll and maximize profits . I’m terrified that this will happen here . Nobody knows how long they have on the planet but all I want is a Padres championship and maybe a Lions Superbowl . I know , talk about a couple of long shots .
Live for today because tomorrow isn't guaranteed .

I understand more than most.
I've been a Padre fan since Day 1 and ALSO a Jaguars fan since Day 1.
I need a Padres WS and a Jags SB win.
About as likely as yours....but who knows?
Maybe Det and Jax will meet in the SB and at least one of us will get their wish.
