I made reference to that very thing in my original post....hope it doesn't blow his psyche to bits

I doubt it will but I agree.....what a terrible place to start a career where baseball scores end up looking like a beer league softball game score....you know what they say....what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger

I think Lauer will be fine but man does he look young 🙂

It's not just the Coors effect but facing LeMaheau,Blackmon,Arenado and Story as your first major league hitters is down right cruel.

2 batting champs and a future Hall of Famer and a 30+ hr SS right out of the gate.

The decision to leave Strahm in the bullpen undoubtedly plays a role in being okay exposing Baumann to waivers. With Webb and McGrath already there to ride the shuttle as LHRP, it's a gamble worth taking at this point.

On a side note.....when Villanueva comes back we really need to just DFA Headley and move on.

It’s bad enough we have Hedges and Margot still  “on the interstate”.....but Headley is still in the “school zone”.

I guess he would get claimed .... everyone wants LHRP with minor league options (can be optioned again in 2019) and five control years as insurance. A chance more than one team claims him and Preller can work out a PTNL deal.

Technical question ... although Baumann does not have enough major league time to decline a minor league assignment  does the fact that he has enough time to be a 6 year minor league FA (I think) give him the right to declare free agency in this situation? If so, his agent may be calling around to place him in a different organization with a better chance of returning to the ML roster at some point. He is 30, so hanging around the Padres organization behind Hand, Erlin, Strahm, Webb, McGrath, and coming soon Castillo and Wieck ... all LHRP ... may not be a desirable option. Of course, given that situation they may just not want to keep him.

If he is outrighted, then at a subsequent point he was added back to the 40-man, he'd have more choices should the Padres (or any other club) DFA him a second time. That's the situation Jace Peterson found himself in recently.
