Padres vs Red Sox

12

This should be fun....3 game series against the World Series Champs

Can the young Padres pitching staff hold the Red Sox hitters down ?

Can Kirby Yeats add onto his baseball leading 36 saves ?

Don't get to see the BoSox often so this will be very cool

Go Pads !!!!!

What am I missing here?  Eduardo Rodriguez is starting for the Bosox tonight per MLB/SD/BOS  Web sites.  He pitched five innings yesterday against the Royals.  Is this some weird backlash against the opener?  The back-to-back-starter?

He didnt pitched yesterday, he pitched in a game againist the royals that was resumed yesterday.

Fun 3 finger?

I call this depressing.

This is what a team looks like that can hit......we don’t look anything like this team.

2019 was fun for half the season.....now it’s same Ol same Ol.

Mr.P is really in the dumps right now.

David.....I guess you didn't get my veiled sarcasm.........professional hitters that have a plan when they get in the box and cover the plate and use the whole field

They have a bunch of them........our Padres....not so much

They had a great scouting report on Paddack and it showed

Well I knew you said “fun” before the game started.

Such optimism for me has disappeared.

Im gonna watch the Minors for the rest of the way I guess and hope(once again) that next March brings something different.

Watching a team like the Red Sox and seeing how far we have to go doesn’t give me much hope even for next year.

Oh well.....I’ve made it this long what’s a few more years?

Fatso Naylor is so bad defensively that he makes Franmil Reyes look like a GG   🙁

I was going to watch on MLB network . Thank goodness the Atl Mets game went 14 innings. I gave up and went to bed and saved a lot of grief.

I switched over to the ATL-NYM game early .... at least some interest in a tie game going 14 where every batter could create a win for either side.

BUT at the same time two teams with hitters that are the prototype of the 3 natural outcome philosophy.

ATL: 2 runs on 8 hits in 14 innings with 5 BB and an incredible 26K (about 62% of their outs were by K). If you add non-K outs (16) and hits (8) ... less than the Ks, so less than a  50% of the AB put balls in play.

NYM not much better:  1 run on 6 hits in 14 innings with 4 BB and contributed 14 K. Also consider their only run came on a HR from their pitcher ... DeGrom.

Given it was a tie game between the Division leader and a WC contender ... would have though one of the teams would be motivated to play a little small ball to get one run across. It took a bad final relief pitcher to set up the winning run.

Well Boston has players who know how to hit ... they lead all MLB in AVG and are second  in OBP. Plus know how to take ... foul off pitches ... make contact to the opposition field when needed.

Guessing Myers, Renfroe, and Hedges could not make the Red Sox bench with their pull at all cost approach.

========

For the part of the Padres’ game I saw .... mainly the Paddock disaster ... not good. I think the Padres want Paddack to pitch about every 6th day (limited innings) to get him to the end of the season (maybe not limited as yesterday) but beginning to think he needs to be shut down at least for a couple consecutive starts (at a minimum).

His command was way off and that could be just due to body fatigue given this is the most he has ever pitched in a season. Saw the one HR where Mejia set up on the outside corner and the pitch came in on the inside corner. Another the the set-up was inside and the pitch came in near center plate.

Maybe he could get away with that in the minors with his quality “stuff” ... and expect he is not trying to pitch to those spots ... so the the need is to improve command while keeping his “stuff” ... rookie so may take some time.
