2 of 3 in Oakland keep it going

Good outing by Richards ... 7 innings ... 9K / 0 BB / 7 hits. Only 83 pitches. Probably did not deserve to get tagged with 3 earned run.

Moved ahead of Paddack to #4 SP?

The Padres paid Richards a heck of a lot of money for the limited amount of starts he will make this season. Let's see 14 million for ??? starts, that's  . . . I don't want to think about it. But TODAY, he was worth every penny.

$15.5M right???  ;-P

OK now I really don't want to think about it:)

Richards had everything working and probably could have gone another inning.  That HR was bombed, so might be better to take him out early rather than late.  As for what he is getting paid, pro-rated over this year or he probably would have started around 27-28 games in a 162 game season if he performed close to his norms in the past.  Not sure what a veteran major league pitcher with his experience is getting paid but I know Lance Lynn is making about that much this year.  Anyone, he's probably not going to be here next year so he contributes when we need him.

They'll stay as are next 2 times through the rotation with no off days, then make that decision when they reach it.

Wouldn't count CP out yet, but there would have to be a combo of dramatic improvement by him AND poor outing/s by Richards next 2 each.

After that, there's only 8 games left, with 2 more off days.  On paper looks like only 1-4 twice each, but may be locked into playoff seed by last series, could go piggyback starts, etc.

Yup... but 8.5 MM this year is prorated to 37%.  But he does also get incentives.  They're prorated too, but still!!
