I can see Ruiz in CF... and either Alfaro or Nola at DH.. after Voit experienced some upper thigh discomfort and Grishman's back tighten up on him yesterday after those back to back plays last night

And throw in the feeling that Abrams' soar bicep may keep him out of playing in the field.

If all three are out ... Ruiz is in CF and Batten is the bench? Although do expect all three may still be game time decisions. Abrams could DH even with the sore bicep I guess.

More concerned about the "day after" evaluation of the injuries ... although post-game Melvin did not express concern the real test is recovery time. Not great for a CF to have a bad back effecting his fielding and hitting or a "hitter" in Voit having his swing hampered. Having multiple players limited really constrains the bench ... maybe "forcing" a conservative IL stint for one or the other.

Not really seeing any AAA call-ups that excite me ... so maybe an early activation of Myers to DH (Batten down). Maybe Preller pushes a bit harder for a trade.

I kind of want to see Kohwley at some point.. he walks..doesn't strikeout ..hits for Avg.. plays 1B and all 3 OF positions.. is getting a bit old and has sort of "earned" a shot...But 40 is an issue so likely a ST 23 invite...

Azocar had a big game yesterday but had been struggling (can play CF if need be Grish IL?)... I dont know if Myers can help much other than 1B/DH.. seems like the start or 2 he had in CF at LE were enough for Padres to keep him off the grass...

I think Batten can cover CF in an emergency.. and not sure what trade AJP could make (other than Beni) to at least hold serve... Ruiz gets to shine and force himself on the everyday lineup or raise more ?? ... hopefully a good massage/stretch gets Grisham back sooner than later..if nothing else for depth purposes

All of this becomes more challenging since we are in the midst of a playoff race and up against a trade deadline. Which gambles to you take in the short run while predicting the length of any of the injuries … 10 days vs weeks v month? Even if the injured return will there be lingering effects on their performance? Only so many roster slots and one move may force a second … undesirable move later.

Does heighten the priority in my mind for Benintendi or Happ for some CF coverage plus the other OF/DH roles … Grisham may be hurt now but no telling if Profar or Mazara or Myers gets injured later … without quality coverage. Less priority to Bell / Contreras.

Hope the injuries are not serious and coverage by Ruiz - Abrams - Batten for now keep the offense above water. Musgrove needs to on his game for the METS.

Yes…for all the reasons I’ve stated before and also because it’s so easy to just nudge the foot off the bag.Doesn’t even look like that’s what’s the player is doing…when you’re holding on with just the toe of your shoe it doesn’t take much.
