Padres vs Marlins

So the first game of the series was a disaster...is this the time the Padres slowly sink into the West ?

When will people actually hold Andy Green accountable or does he just have a free pass or lifetime contract ?

Hopefully they can get something going today and get one in the win column

Go Pads !!!!!

This has been our MO though for the first half of the season....not sure why it would suddenly change?

We could win the next 3 or 4 and be right back at .500

We have pretty much fluctuated between a few games under and a few games over .500.

We just don't have enough pitching or a consistent enough offense to do much different.

Well off on the wrong foot again ... Reyes talking to you.

Last night PH in 9th ... well behind ...  man on 1st .... 2 run HR .... great for his WAR since WAR does not really care about when the stats are accumulate or even RBI.

Today in first with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out ... chance to put the team out ahead early and put the pressure on Miami ... yes, a double play ending the inning.

so in those two outcomes he has a great stat line and little key production. Reyes before today had a .167 BA with runners in scoring position for the season.

Add that to Renfroe with some fine stats but a .183 BA with runners in scoring position and Myers at .176 and that combined clutch work out of both corner OF slots does not make for a winning team.

For comparison Machado was at .388 and Homer at .366 and even Garcia is at .263.

Although the production can move up and down .... about 60 AB is a decent sample size.

I guess we have what we have and no clear near term prospect ready to step in and improve the situation .... maybe Preller should be looking for a corner OF upgrade and work harder to use Reyes and Renfroe as trade bait/

The difference between having Hedges behind the plate versus Mejia is night and day. Hedges makes it look so easy and frames pitches so well whoever is on the mound is able to nibble instead of take chunks of the plate.

Hedges and his 2 run bomb doesn't hurt either 🙂

There is no way that Reyes flags down that shot to right field but Renfroe made it with room to spare.

Fun Stuff 🙂

I was just complementing Greene on the switch in another thread. One batter at a time.

21 times we’ve lost a no hitter in the 8th or 9th.

TWENTY ONE!

Come on!

First Garcia and now Tatis.

I realize he’s a rookie but he follows up last night with a 4K game and two errors?

Hedges flat out saved that game tonight in so many ways from framing pitches and getting a strike call to blocking pitches in the dirt that otherwise end up at the backstop. Like he said post game...he takes pride in his defense and it allows Yates to throw the splitter in the dirt because Yates KNOWS Hedgey will knock it down.

I don't know how much of the game gets called by the dugout or if Hedges gets to call the game himself but he and Paddack had it going on tonight....Fastball in all four corners and a change up that was down or down and in and very tough to hit

Every team needs a guy that can stop a skid and Paddack sure looks to be that guy for San Diego

A " W ".......Go Pads !!!!!!!

Get Tatis out of Miami! Another K to start the game.

Plus the Padres who actually had a good defensive record this season have looked bad: Tatis, Kinsler, Garcia, Hosmer, and of course Naylor are not catching or throwing well.

Too much fun on South Beach? Too many majitos?

Not the way to play against the worst team in the NL.
