Quote from 3fingersplit on May 29, 2024, 4:26 pmWell lesson learned…next time the boys have a chance for a series sweep…I’m not saying a word…kinda like if your pitcher is throwing a no-no. Went 3-3 on the home stand so it’s better than having a losing record. Having the day off tomorrow hopefully gives these guys a chance to catch their breath and maybe just a day to relax before they start again with the Royals.
Go Padres !!!

Quote from 3fingersplit on May 29, 2024, 4:42 pmI was just listening to Mike Shildt speak on the post game and I am really liking him.
He flat out said today wasn’t a clean game and not their best effort but also made it a point to shut down some negative questions by pointing out that this team has won 7 of their last 9 series and in the last 28 games they are 16-12 so he would rather focus on the positives than a less than stellar effort today. I never ever heard Bob Melvin say anything like that and I for one like his attitude.

Quote from fenn68 on May 29, 2024, 6:16 pmShildt has a point on winning series. In May the Padres are 15-11 (3rd best in NL) and a winning percentage of .577. If they just continue to play as they have in May over the remaining 103 games … they end up at about 95 wins and a clear playoff slot.
Yes, team looks bad at points and less than expected for sure, but the game is about winning not style points … so the Padres are doing what is needed.

I think we all learned after last year that expectations will kill you so the only expectation I have is that the Padres will put a team on the field every day as scheduled and they will play with the mindset of getting a win. Think about this…there have been so many years that we were hoping to have a.500 season and even though they came up way short of expectations last year they still had a winning record for the season…82-80. There were plenty of teams that didn’t have a winning record last year so as frustrating as this team can be or look like at times it’s a lot better than the majority of MLB…think how the fans in Oakland feel…they are losing their team or the White Sox who are just really bad or the Angels, Rockies or a team that has big expectations…the Toronto Blue Jays …all things considered we have it pretty good
