Padres vs Marlins May 27-29
Quote from Jeremy Hill on May 27, 2024, 10:19 pmI was at the game today and thought it was a step in the right direction for the offense even if the results weren't great. Lots of hard hit balls that found gloves.
They must think Peralta has more left in the tank than I do. He didn't hit last year with the Dodgers. He wasn't hitting in the minors with the Cubs. He goes 2-11 in 3 games in El Paso and they add him to the roster. I can sort of get using him to give Tatis or Profar against a right handed starter. I don't think he should get any DH ABs. Solano just has a much better recent track record. I was mad when they pinch hit Peralta for him.

Quote from 3fingersplit on May 27, 2024, 11:14 pmA win is a win and given the crazy lack of success this team has had at home it was nice to see the boys get a win today...I was surprised that the attendance was only 38 thousand and change given the fact it was Memorial Day but then again it was the Marlins and they aren't much of a draw. The Padres should have scored more runs today...there were a couple of balls that were just smoked...Jackson Merrill roped a line drive to center field that just stayed up and if it had been hit 10 feet either way it would have gone to the wall...Profar had the same thing...just smoked and same result and then Manny hits a three hopper that Tim Anderson booted and it was just a flat-out boot...no bad hops. The winning run is supplied by Jake with a bases loaded walk in a great at bat...kept fouling off pitches and works a walk. Speaking of Anderson...man has his game gone in the tank...defensively he looks like he has a serious case of the yips and at the plate his swing is really long and slow with zero pop...even his foul balls would not have broken a pane of glass. He just looks like he doesn't even want to be there because I remember when he played for the White Sox and the guy was a baller...now not so much...I doubt he would bring ANYTHING at the trade deadline and Jazz Chisholm has way to much hot dog in him...there wasn't enough mustard at Petco today to cover that guy. I feel bad for Skip Schumaker because he has to watch this garbage everyday...it's no wonder he wants out of Miami.
This is the type of team that San Diego should bury in this three game series with Miami.
Go Padres !!!

Quote from WindsorUK on May 28, 2024, 9:03 pmWaldron is a stud! For a rotations 5th guy, he can be very effective. 7 innings, no runs, no walks? How many outings have we had like that so far this year? He's a keeper.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on May 28, 2024, 9:35 pmWaldron has strung together 4 solid starts in a row now. I read that Niebla had him start throwing more in the pen before games after realizing he was getting hit early in games and got better as he went along. The new routine seems to be working for him. Estrada has been unreal. Most consecutive strikeouts in at least the expansion era.

Quote from 84padres on May 29, 2024, 5:12 amAJ s' best moves this year are the cost effective moves . Solano , Profar , Estrada , Wandy Peralta , Matsui and Arraez ( with Miami paying his salary )
I hope he sticks with this option and stops giving out big money deals for a while if he sticks around .

Maybe we are seeing the "real" Preller who arrived with the reputation of elite scouting. Could just be a factor of ownership turned off the money supply BUT could reflect those big money contracts were NOT the product of Preller decisions but the result of ownership pushing him into those commitments. I could easily see the 2015 big moves being a product of Mike Dee / Fowler trying to make a splash and 2022-23 being the product of Siedler's desire to win.
The Padres' ownership has not been a "hands off" group in Preller's time ... and "bosses" who control the purse strings are likely leading more of the decision making that given credit (blame) for.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 29, 2024, 11:06 amWaldron is also throwing more Knucklers than he did before.
It's his best pitch and the hitters struggle with it even when they know its coming...as long as he doesn't leave it belt high down the middle...which is probably just chance anyway.
I wonder(someone should ask him) what he even aims at cause I'm sure he never knows what each one is going to do exactly.
He has been throwing it 40-50% of the time recently....needs to keep it up

Quote from 3fingersplit on May 29, 2024, 12:33 pmI said it before and I’ll say it again …Waldron has been pitching lights out for most of the season…every year there is always what I call “ The Hard Luck “ pitcher of the rotation meaning that it doesn’t matter how well he throws in his start he gets very little if any help from the offense. Chris Paddack had a year like that…good pitcher but can’t win many games if you only give up one run and your offense scores zero. Some people were saying Waldron isn’t a MLB pitcher when in fact he is just like any other pitcher that is going to have a bad outing on occasion…Darvish had been lights out with 24 or 25 scoreless innings pitched and then he gets roughed up by the Yankees, Cease is a ace but he got touched by the Rockies and the list goes on
Any team in MLB would love to have Waldron as their #5 starter so just enjoy the ride because barring a injury I think he is only going to get better and better.
Padres have a good chance to get a series sweep today and that would be huge before they go on the road for six games…3 against the Royals (34-22) and will face Lugo and Wacha so a tough 3 game series against a surprising good Royals team and then 3 against the Angels (21-33)…a expected bad team. A .500 record for this road trip would be great before they come home and face the D’backs and A’s. Padres are currently two games over.500 at 30-28…get a win today and then start off June on a mini streak
Go Padres!!!⚾️
