Padres @ Rockies April 22-25

Padres are saying Machado will return for FRIDAY’s game. He was put on the paternity leave on MONDAY (22nd) and that is a three day limit (MON-TUE-WED). At the same time Batten was recalled to cover.
1. Does a Padre player have to be optioned today (one day over the leave limit) and Padres play one down? Since Batten did not play on MON … possible they time stamped the leave after the game on MON and it really does not expire for today’s game? Just one of the annoying technicalities I love.
2. Batten was the call-up … but should the Padres instead option Pauley. He still is a prospect with a future but he is not getting regular time in the ML and is clearly over matched at this point … 2 hits / 21 AB / 11 strikeouts … scatter in some fielding issues at 3B … don’t see this helping him develop nor help the Padres win. Keeping up Batten adds versatility with a fringe player who actually hit well enough in 2023.
3. Have to think Solano is getting close to being added … that probably at the optioning of Batten since in EP he has been 1B/DH.
4. Until Manny is ready for 3B … just might live with Rosario / Wade … at least decent defense and Rosario does seem to have his spells of hitting with some SLG.

Somethings will just not go away.
Saw a note that Pham today has the option to opt out of his minor league deal with CWS if not added to the 26 man. Given how the CWS are playing … not sure why they would add him and pay any money … pretty sure Pham will not stay around in the CWS minors (actually played little so far).
So, IF the Padres were “in discussions” with Pham … if he opts out … will those discussions re-ignite (likely at a price point lower that his CWS deal)? Or are the Padres more content with their deal with Solano … both veteran RHH DH types at this point?

This may spell a problem for Pauley’s run with the Padres ….
RHP for COLO today … as expected Wade at 3B but the Padres put Profar at DH and are starting RHH Azocar in LF (as opposed to Profar in LF and Pauley a LHH at DH).

Last minute change:
Merrill not playing … Azocar to CF … Wade to LF … Rosario in at 3B.
No Pauley.

I said before, I'll say it again, I really really hate Coors Field, thank God they are out of there.

Games like that are what stop me from really believing this year's team is going to be any better than last year's. Coors field or not a good team can't let that happen. How many games have we already given away this year?

Time for my annual “I hate Coors Field” post.
This team needs one more bat…not sure we can wait till the deadline.

About the same they gave away last year after 28 games, it really feels like deja vú, just when you think they are gonna win a game and gonna go on a roll, somehow they blew it, therefore go back, and have to start building momentum again.

OK, dodged a bullet ... CWS did add Pham to their 26 man roster ... so not in the immediate future for the Padres.
