Padres here Jayce Tingler

And the word is they will have a very experienced coaching staff around them.

It won't be all "first timers".

I think Dickerson is completely qualified to be Bench coach.

We are seeing that playing experience and even prior coaching experience may be over rated.

If you've been in dugouts in any capacity for decades ....and get through the interview process and get hired....I think

they're confident  this person can do the job.

Does anyone know if Balsley speaks Spanish? This seems like a trend, and might be his undoing if not.

So the trends I’m seeing in their hiring process are: spanish speaker, good communicator, and relationship builder. I know Andy didn’t speak Spanish but I have to wonder...was Andy terrible in these two areas? But these three areas seem to be the areas they have all stressed in the process. Obviously a good leader is a must as well.

I, too am hoping Balsley stays as I believe he was crucial to the staff the past so many years. I just would have liked them to go after Prior if they really are making a change.

Hear that Wayne Kirby is taking a coaching job with the #Padres, probably first base and also working with outfielders/baserunners.

The Padres are keeping Skip Schumaker in a TBA role, according to sources.

 Kirby a former player (55) been with TRangers and Baltimore-- another guy who spent lots of time in player Development... I like what Tingler/AJP are doing here.. Skip is highly touted (Mets interviewed him for Manager job)...and he has familiarity with roster- continuity guy

This whole thing stinks....AJ Preller is just loading up the Padres with all his old friends from Texas. Barajas sounds like he is gone, Balsley sounds like he is gone, Glenn Hoffman sounds like he is gone....anybody with any ties to San Diego and or Andy Green/ Bud Black....Gone

On top of all that the only way you can get any info on any season ticket package is to go to Petco and have them give you the high pressure hard sell routine and even then they won't tell you pricing until you make some sort of commitment and here I thought the Chargers were bad.....Note to Padres....people there talk way to much

I sure hope the fishing is good next year because I will need something to do other than support this clown car.

How many championships have the Padres won in the last 2 decades? Hell since they became the Padres? Exactly definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results ... Lets mix it up a bit, create controlled chaos and watch the cream rise to the top......................

You are so right.....Glenn Hoffman and Darren Balsley are the reason the Padres haven't won anything for 2 decades.

Lets see......bring in a bunch of over priced veteran big name players and make a big splash  and watch that fail and blow out the manager and put some guy named Murphy in charge...yup that was mixing it up a bit and so to mix it up further we get Andy Green that was terrible but we mixed it up and now we play the wanna be nepotism game that looks and smells like the same political garbage that we see everyday but hey....mix it up and hire somebody because he is good at building relationships and that works how ?

Build a personal relationship with a player only to bench him or trade him or release him....right on...that's mixing it up for sure. At least everybody is friends when this thing goes south and personal relationships work so well when you advocate 9 for 2 trades or a free agent considers San Diego but then finds out the Manager is wonderful in the Dominican fall league as his experience but he can speak Spanish........so much for that next Japanese or Korean superstar pitcher or hitter.

Would have been nice to actually have a baseball guy instead of a front office guy be the manager but lets mix it up

I don't see how you can say a guy that is in charge of player development is a front office guy. Tingler has spend the majority of his career in player development, not in the front office. I think that is an unfair characterization. Plus, when you hear him talk, you can sense that he is a people person, not one to sit behind a desk.

The addition of Wayne Kirby for 1st base coach, OF/baserunning should get more attention. He had been with Baltimore for decade and during their playoff appearances before the disaster from 2017-19 ... apparently has a good relationship with Machado. Simply both he and Dickerson were parts of a successful run and “learning” from Showalter while cultivating a good relationship with SD’s prime asset Machado.

So, both have a background of winning and playoffs in an organization that frankly because of ownership is pretty dysfunctional and a recent front office making “questionable” decisions (see Davis, Trumbo, ... )

=====

It will be interesting to see where they place Schumaker .... clearly the Padres (and others) like him. Development role: MiL manager, front office role, .....? ML 1B coach is good but if he wants to manage ... maybe a more rounded background is of value.

=====

Barajas will be the interesting move. Possible the keep him as the “catching coach”? Apparently a good teaching relationship with Mejia (can bridge the communication language gap with Mejia who does not speak English well) and for the up and coming Torrens. A full time focus there would be worth his salary.

=====

Since about 1/2 of the 2020 club looks to be from Latin America ... maybe having a coach from Latin America that can relate has value above the needed ability to speak Spanish. Sort of a ombudsman for them. (Note: Barajas is Mexican-American born in Ontario, CA ... so not a perfect fit for that theory but still more relatable)

Is it pronounced JC, or Jas, as in short for Jason?
