Padres @ Cardinals August 28-30

Not intending to excuse their poor performances.Almost every offensive player has had a down year.

But it's not possible to have the pitching/defense we have...and be middle of the pack in offense even with the down years...and lose 95% of all close games.

May break the record for extra inning futility and at the same time be at the bottom in 1-2 run games.....that isn't all on Manny/Tatis/Cronenworth et all.

Certianly not on Preller or Melvin.

These guys are top flight MLB players....their perfomance,or lack there of,is on them....not where BoMel puts them in the lineup etc.

Honestly have no idea why this bad season evolved ... and blame has been cast on the GM, Manager, Coaches, Players, PETCO, weather, longitude / latitude, media, fans ... and I will add what is a bit of an unpopular view and cast some fault on Seidler.

Yes, I think Seidler is an outstanding person and almost everyone praises him for opening his pocketbook to try to build a winner (especially after previous owners).

However, has that open pocketbook combined with his apparent blind spot on Preller and some players (think Machado) set the stage for some poor decision making ... and this team.

Basically with the freedom to spend without any curbs ... does that reduce the rigger the GM in making tough player evaluations, strategic signings, full roster configurations. Easier to shoot for the "shiny bobbles" with less evaluation? Clearly from reports, it was Seidler who pushed the Machado extension (very long term / big money) but how involved was he in the (in my mind) the questionable big money / long term signing of an aging Darvish, a declining performance over his 3 year 2B in Cronenworth, a somewhat unnecessary (given other needs) Bogaerts. I don't believe that Preller is making these deals on his own ... not for that level of financial commitment. Either Seidler is an instigator or being manipulated by Preller ... either way part of the problem. Is Seidler too much a fan and too desperate to create a winner leading to some poor judgement? (note: can also apply this though to Cohen and the METS).
